  1. Welcome to the Dillon reloading family. When yo get the bugs worked out, you'll be crankin' out ammo like crazy! Primers are fed from the tube, into a circular plate in the primer feed station and there is a 6 primer lag. The holes are filled with primers as they step/rotate into proper position to be inserted into the final priming station. Hope this helps you find your primers! Marv
  2. For anyone interested in how he died...or more interesting, how he lived, go here: http://outside.away.com/magazine/0499/9904terminal.html Human error seems to get a lot of extreme sports folks...
  3. I'm the guy who took the pictures and owned the gun above. It is a great pistol and the light weight made it really easy to move around. The slide looks stock, but is internally lightened...alot. Cycles very fast and the reduced mass really seems to help with the dot track. I sold the pistol earlier this year, but ordered a new one just like it about two months ago. Exact same configuration and setup... Marv
  4. Yea, I got a reinforcement of this lesson at the Ohio State Match. On one of the field courses (Barnyard Shuffle - 32 rds), I had to reshoot due to one of my bullets going through a window sill in a wooden wall and hitting a popper visible through the window...declared range failure. After I reshot the stage, it was determined that two swingers that sat near each other could possibly over lap when activated, so everyone was made to reshoot the stage. Of course the third run was the worst for me (reshot the stage after completing the other 8 stages...and I'm on chemotherapy, so I tire easily), but I sure got my money's worth on that stage! Always take twice as much ammo as you think you'll need!
  5. I thought ESP was for single action pistols in any caliber EXCEPT 45, which is CDP. I don't think I have seen anyone trying to shoot ESP with a 45 in minor. Interesting question though...
  6. Try a standard 1911 holster. Last 41 I had fit perfectly in the 1911 holsters I had.
  7. Looking at the pictures, it appears as though the sear spring on the new set of parts isn't putting enought pressure on the disconnector to push it up into the disconnector slot. Also, measure the length of the disconnector from the top of the hole where the sear pin goes through to the top of the disconnector. The slot in the slide may be a little shallow for the new disconnector and not allowing it to ride up where it needs to be. If this seems a little complicated, it is. Have it all checked by a reliable smith for your own safety. Good luck!
  8. Wow! I would be OK with that. The tubes are 45 tubes (4 shallow grooves) and the springs and followers are factory (I built the mags from factory parts since complete mags were sold out at my usual supply). Chuck, how many coils on your spring and has the follower been modified? (If it isn't too much trouble to check). Thanks
  9. If I count correctly, the spring is an 11 coil spring (11.5 actually). The base pad is the standard basepad that comes in multi-colored variety. Doesn't add any rounds but makes 140mm. Thanks
  10. I have read about this here before, but couldn't find anything specific using the search function. Here's what I have... I am running an STI framed pistol in 45 acp. I have 5 140mm mags. I can only get 12 rounds in each of them without using a brake press to squeeze in 13-15. I am using standard mags and components: 140mm tube, STI follower, 140mm spring, 170mm basepad. How do I increase the standard capacity? I have them sitting now with 12 to set the spring. Would it help to cut a coil or two from the spring? Trim the follower? Beat it with a hammer? Help!!!! Thanks
  11. I've had really great experiences with the brownells slide rail file. has safe edge and is really sharp. Not bad price. I use it for many cutting and finishing jobs.
  12. Just in from SA... Hi Marvin - We have been told that gun will be available late this year. No price has been set on that gun. Thanks- Tom TOM MACKE SPRINGFIELD-ARMORY 1-800-680-6866 X970 1309-944-8490 - FAX www.springfieldarmory.com tomm@springfield-armory.com
  13. STI Edge...$1600 6 fitted 19 rd. mags... $600 Dillon 650...$700 Holster, mag pouches, belt...$300 Having your own $85 Shooting Chrony...PRICELESS! Best investment I ever made (actually I won it as a prize for first in class in my local club). Wouldn't even attempt to load match ammo with out it. Traded the one I won for a Beta model with memory. Reaaaly handy when you forget pencil and paper...
  14. One of the local SASS groups also makes the shooting sequence a part of the stage. Picture a steel match with 4 targets. You have to ring them in a set order... 1-2-3-4-2-3-4-1-3-4-1-2-4-1-2-3 Any mistakes and its a 5 second penalty. Plus a lot of the cowboy shooters around here are older guys who enjoy three gunning, they just don't like the fast-paced, over-competitive nature of the 3 gunners (no insult intended). They also just enjoy the social nature of cowboy. I don't shoot it anymore, though. The ROs kept getting on me for my tennies and ball caps!
  15. I just started loading for my five inch gun and really like the 7.3 grain load of 7625 over a 124 CMJ MG bullet. I shot my first match with it and really was surprised at how little muzzle rise there was. I also thought the load sounded softer that the 3N37 I had been using. Now I just have to learn to trust my judgement on the dot. I am so used to open sights, I am having minor difficulty trusting when to pull the trigger!
  16. I bought a used Edge a year ago. Many rounds through it and only problem has been broken extractor. Runs 100%. Bought it from a person on the USPSA site. I'm VERRRRRY happy with it!
  17. Just how many rounds are we talking? I just started using 7625 in my 5" gun and am loading 7.3 gr. for 1360 fps with a 124 gr. MG CMJ. I have also tested 3N37 and just bought some 3N38 to do some more testing. I really like the economy of the 7625 (about $85 for an 8 lb tote versus $85 for 4 lbs of 3N38), but if I will have to replace the barrel more frequently, I can't see the gain. What's everyone else experiencing?
  18. I might try the 4756. I used to shoot it in my 45 and it worked great. One thing I really don't like about 7625 is the case volume. The case is SOOOO full of powder, when the 650 snaps on index, you can loose a little powder, so I am seating bullets in the stage prior to the seating step. Not a lot of extra volume in the case left, which is a good thing, I guess. I have shot an S2 without the poppleholes, and if memory serves me well, the S1 with the holes seems to be very similar in recoil reduction. Virgil and the guys in the shop at Tripp said they had experimented with the S1 vs the S2 before they decided on the S1. When trying to save overall gun weight, the lightened slide and the lighter weight on the end of the barrel are noticably better handling than my Para open gun with Nowlin three port and full slide. Steel frame probably has something to do with that also.
  19. I haven't tried 3N38 yet. I live in an area where the nearest VV supply is about 4-5 hours away unless I buy it in quanity. I am meeting Dave from Target Barn in about a week. Maybe I can get some from him. I thought 7625 felt a little a little snapier than the 3N37. Kinda like the difference between the recoil of a 45 and 40. I didn't like the snapiness at first, but I find the dot comes down quicker. I am sure I can get used to it if I firm up my grip a little. I thought it rather odd also that the 3N37 had more of a "boom" sound than the 7625, which sounds about like my 40. Final decision may come down to economics since I plan on burning a lot of ammo... plus 7625 is really easy to get locally in bulk.
  20. When I got word, Virgil had some guns being built and had a few unsold. I talked to him about features and options and he sent the gun a week later! The pistol he was building just happened to be built exactly like what I was looking for... For anyone interested, I have done most of the ammo testing and it look like 7.3 gr. of SR7625 over a MG 124 CMJ is going to be the lucky load. I also tried VV 3N37 since I had some, but I am not happy about having to pay $20+ per lb for powder for very little difference in measured performance. I like the gun...alot! And Virgil is a pleasure to deal with!
  21. http://www.battenfeldtechnologies.com/whee...#dsrewdriverset I just picked up one of these at my dealer. WOW! The specialty tools are worth the price (around $75). The 15 specialty tools are worth a bunch...it comes with the following tools in addition to the great selection of flat, phillips, hex and torque bits: Weaver/Ruger scope ring clamp bit Redfield windage screw bit Leupold windage screw bit Mauser Stock bolt bit Millett rear sight bit 1911 grip screw bushing driver Ruger/Colt SA basepin latch nut bit M1/M14/M1A rear sight bit .062 Pin punch bit .093 Pin punch bit .118 Pin punch bit Remington 870/1100/1187 trigger plate pin punch 2 inch #2 phillips Glock Front sight screw bit S&W rebound spring compressor tool I wish I would have seen this a couple of years ago! The quality is excellent and replacement bits are available.
  22. The best summary I have found of requirements for shipping guns is on Gun Broker.com. They provide all of the applicable statues and do a great job of saying it in plan english. http://www.gunbroker.com/Support/SupportFA...=1118&NoCount=1 Hope this helps! It is in MY bookmark file!
  23. I don't know if this goes in the rant page or here, but does anyone else think they suck? When I am not shooting, the grips feel great, but as soon as the first round goes off, my right hand knuckle takes a real beating! Looks like a set of rubber Hogues are in my future!
  24. Ok Nick...what did you do to my gun? It was working fine when I sold it to you? I just tried one of the Wolff trigger spring kits in my new 625. What a pain the a$$. I used the new main spring and the 14 lb trigger return spring. Couldn't get two full moonclips to go off without two or three strikes per round! I used loads with WLP primers. Looks like I need to switch to Federals also. I put the original mainspring back in and it ran fine yesterday in the revolver match I shot. Good luck getting the bugs worked out. Sorry I missed you at the match Saturday. I woke up to a level one snow emergency and in my county...that means STAY HOME since the road crews suck. See you at the April match. Marvin
  25. I probably should have mentioned I asked about production pistols. I figure the custom shop can/will crank out about anything you ask of them. I would really like to see how much they are MSRPing the HiCap Leatham for... How did you find the picture of theat pistol AkiDale? I tried to find it through the regular sight and it was nowhere to be found. Thanks for the info!
