  1. I was tempted to stand beside the camera and tell "Charlie-Mike" after each couple of shots, but I figured they would throw that footage out if I did that.
  2. I believe the light handicap is only 1 oz of shot whereas the other is 1 1/8 oz.
  3. http://www.nbcaugusta.com/news/local/Local-public-safety-officer-gives-tips-for-surviving-a-home-invasion-98602834.html He only started shooting a few months ago but you can tell *someone* drilled it into him to get his finger out of the trigger guard when he wasn't shooting. I was very proud of how well he did. I was also very pleased that they (NBC Augusta) did not put any negative slant on what we were doing. Even though they only included a few seconds of the many minutes of conversation / interview we had, what they included was an entirely accurate summation of our comments.
  4. Very cool! I applaud your attitude. I'd love to see some video when you get a chance. How old is your daughter and what does she shoot?
  5. Just smart off to the wrong person at the right time...
  6. Measurements on spent brass are not particularly meaningfull, as the case has likely expanded some when the round was fired. I take a slightly different approach to measuring crimp on pistol rounds. I measure the diameter of the case midway of where the bullet is seated. That gives me the full diameter of the bullet and the (double) thickness of the case wall. I then measure right at the mouth of the case and try to have that one to three thousandths less than the full diameter measurement. .357 Sig I do differently since normal neck tension does not seem to be enough to hold the bullet in place so I crimp that until I can't push the bullet inward.
  7. No problem, Mark. Thanks for your picture...though it does take me 10 times longer to read any topic in which you have posted!
  8. Congratulations, Eric. I plan on getting classified in Open with my Production gun. That way, if I ever do screw up loading too many in a mag and get bumped to Open, I won't be shooting Unclassified.
  9. You don't need a mental image...I'm sure he'd post a pic if you ask.
  10. Way to go, Boz! (Can I still join you on the Supper Squad at the Nationals?)
  11. USPSA doesn't really have a "180 rule" since it defines the boundary for muzzle direction as: ...but an example of the common definition is discussed here: http://www.gpsl.org/safetyrules.html

  13. Just curious what where you doing wrong? (I'm a newbee) I like cci and used win but just not too fond not saying I won't use em if they are cheap and or at a good price ill take em! I don't know *what* I might have been doing wrong or *if* I was even doing anything wrong. I meant that it was when I was first getting started so I don't know that I wasn't *possibly* doing something wrong. Clear as mud?
  14. When I first started reloading 3 years ago I started with CCI small pistol primers (9 & 40). I had a fair number of the primers that would catch the lip of the primer when seating and they would turn sideways before getting jammed into the primer pocket. The primers were properly positioned prior to the seating stroke. I switched to Winchester and the problem went away. From looking at the primers it appears (to me, anyway) that the CCI primers flare outward a little more than the Winchester and I attributed the flipping sideways to that. To be honest, I was just starting so I may have been doing several other things wrong at the time, too, so take my experience with a pound of salt. I have not gone back and tried CCI since. Editted to add: Dillon 550. Since switching from CCI, i have used Winchester, Federal, Remington, and Magtech with no problems. I have loaded them with no problems in .223, .380, .38 SPL, 9mm, .357 Sig, .40, and .45.
  15. I believe Josh Lentz got bumped from B to M in revolver. Lord knows he deserves the M, if not a GM.
  16. That is pretty good for your first time! Even for people who shoot well (apparently you do) it takes a while to figure out the strategies to maximize your scoring on different stages. Ever since an injury last year I have a tough time moving around and getting into/out of uncomfortable positions. Luckily, most USPSA stages allow you to shoot them in the order you desire so even though it might be slower for some people, it might be to our advantage to finish up a stage on the shots that have to be done prone or kneeling.
  17. WooHoo! I'm definitely going to try to do this. Would I like to shoot it? Yes. Is it still worth going if I don't shoot? Definitely! Last week I had the pleasure of going out to the range with Charlie, Larry, Jeffrey, and crew and shooting a 3-gun match. They are great people and I would like to help them put on the fine match that I know they are capable of doing. I am somewhat limited on additional days to take off. Do I need to be there the 8th or the 9th? Now to see if I can get my MG Cert before then!
  18. Is it possible to download 4.0 then apply the 4.03 update? I can't find the download for 4.0 and the CD was sent to our MD. I can get it from him but it would be easier for me to just download it.
  19. Thanks, guys. Mike, if I go back up that way I will look you up. I hope your recovery is going well. While I was there I did manage to hit French Creek Outfitters in Pheonixville. I was impressed with the place. Nice selection of guns and the staff knew what they were doing.
  20. On Memorial Day I got the shake the hand of a 90 year old Marine! On Monday I had to fly to Philadelphia. When I got to the rental car place I noticed a Marine sticker on this older guy's briefcase. In line I asked him if he wa a Marine. He told me that he served 36 years in the Marines. He graduated high school in 1938, so he must have served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam (along with other possibilities I don't know). He was not moving well and walked with a cane. He forgot something and had to go back outside to get something from his daughter or grand-daughter that was with him. While he as out I asked the 3 people in front of me if they could let this Marine in front of them. The 35 year old bi*** at the front of the line said something about having to get somewhere. The 55 year old guy behind her told me he was also a veteran. I thanked him, but I guess he still didn't get it. The 50 year old guy in front of me was cool and did let him go before him. I just don't understand how some people can look at themselves in the mirror. When I went outside I got to help him and his daughter load their luggage. He was telling his daughter about how thankful he was that I appreciated his service. When he came home and got out in the mid 70s he likely had a bad reception. I was very happy to be able to tell him and his daughter that it was because of him and others like him that I was able to enjoy the freedom I have had all my life. It was a very emotional moment and I was glad to be able to give him my thanks.
  21. I'm going to be northwest of Philadelphia (Valley Forge area) next week. Are there any weeknight matches in the area? How about indoor ranges open to the public? From reading the law it looks like I should always be on my way to a shooting area.
  22. I picked up a .357 Sig barrel for my M&P 40, as it is simply a barrel swap to go from .40 to .357 Sig and back. I spent a fair bit of time trying to get my crimp right to prevent bullet setback when using resized .40 brass. I have to crimp it *A LOT*! I certainly wouldn't do it with anything but a jacketed bullet. No idea on how it will behave when comped, but in standard configuration the .357 Sig is a more violent round that takes me longer to reacquire the sights with. The .40 makes major power factor more easily and is much faster and more pleasant to shoot.
