  1. The boss on the thumb safety needs to be welded up and re-fit, or replaced altogether. Note that the T-S MUST be fit properly. No Bubba-smithing!
  2. Has this question been beaten to death already?
  3. Get the Kuhnhausen manuals, vol 1 & 2. There are blueprints in vol 2 I like to buy my "stuff" from Brownell's. An 80% is surely a VERY ambitious process. Are you a machinist? You'll need a bridgeport-type mill, adequate end mills, drills and reamers and also appropriate inspection tools.
  4. I shot my 625 at PSA a couple years back. Great shoot! That said, I keep coming back to the bland S&W/Hogue rubber grips. I've tried the Miculek grip (too small & slippery) Hogue wood (just didn't fit) Pachmayer rubber (too long & narrow). I just ordered some nice Ahrend's cocbolo's, but I imagine I'll be putting the rubber Hogue's back on after this little experiment
  5. I shoot a 625 in 45 ACP and a 627 in 38 Super. I am poised to purchase the North Mountain Moonclip holder (the 4-post fat man special!) My question is can I use that apparatus to securely hold both 6-shot 45 moonclips and 8-shot 38 Super moonclips? (not at the same time)
  6. An old thread, but I'll throw my $.02 worth in I shoot Rainier or Berry's .356" plated bullets through the gun, and it groups admirably. My load is either 5.0 of 231 or 4.0 of Clays. I shoot steel, so power factor's aren't a "factor" I also use Remington nickle-plated brass, and use this brass ONLY in the 627. I never have extraction and/or loading issues. I've experienced problems loading when I tried .357 jacketed & plated bullets seating the moonies all the way in. I use S&W moon clips exclusively
  7. The press needs to solidly mounted. Whatever you choose, it's wise to lag it the wall, floor or both!
  8. On the Mini-Walls entry form, there is contact info for Bob & Jim. Email either of those gentlemen and they'll hook you up
  9. Larry Davidson could make you G10 grips for your Buckmark http://www.davidsonknives.com/grips/grips.htm
  10. RI is so small, I rekon everything is close to Providence Here's the club's address, Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club 200 Brook Road Harrisville, RI 02830
  11. My club is putting on it's 4th annual Walls of Steel shoot on August 19-22 at the Wallum Lake R&G in Harrisville, Rhode Island, which is in the northwest corner of the state. Check it out here, http://wallsofsteel.com/ I hope some of you folks can join us
  12. I just installed the "Swenson" ambi safety. More work than I could have imagined, and it looks kinds funky as well.
  13. You ain't kiddin'! The pins weren't square nor did they fit the grip safety and needed tweaking. I spent 2+ hours just polishing out the cast marks and flattening the paddles. Another 2+ hours making it all fit the frame on the Bridgeport, and another 1+ hours contouring to match the frame. There was a LOT of extra material on this thing. Here's what I came up with. Not the prettiest install for sure,
  14. CMC/Chip McCormick "power mags" are very good as well
  15. get one of each, 4150 and stainless, have them both fitted at the same time, and conduct your own little test in regards to longevity and accuracy
  16. I installed a 4150 Clark barrel in that Tripp framed gun I resurrected. I have got that barrel too hot to touch, firing about 100 rounds at a whack in rapid fire drills. Loosened the Loc-tite on it once! I have no idea how long it (or any barrel for that matter) will last. I bought the Clark because that's what my gun to begin with, it was pre-threaded which fit the comp I have and the chamber was finished reamed. Headspace came out right at .902 after fitting the hood. The gun is accurate. I can put 10 rounds in 2" at 20 yards off-hand...which is good enough for me. I know this doesn't help much with your decision, but I figured I'd throw it out there
  17. It's my effort and time. To ME it would be well worth it, as I'm trying to put together a grand old Tripp Open gun, and the Swenson ambi shielded safeties are "Ol' School" (gratuitous picture of my Tripp-framed Open Gun)
  18. Cool, would you be able to share a picture of two of the gun(s)? EDIT: just found pics you posted in the Open Gun pic thread!
  19. Has anyone fit the Swenson Shielded ambi safety to a 2011 framed gun? After about 2 hours of filing and polishing, I realized that I will have to remove a substantial amount of material for the paddles to fit over the plunger tube and the same area on the right side of the frame. If it's been done, and you have a pic, that would be great!
  20. I'm working on a suitable load for shooting steel at my club. I've been using Precision Delta 124 RN's and 4756. 7.5 gr 4756 124 RN 1.25" Fed 100 1300 FPS The load works the comp well and burns clean enough, but what am I missing with 7625? Any good minor loads out there? Rekon I'll end up trying some anyways...
