  1. I was blaming the Tasco prematurely. After I had to re-attach the comp, the bullets were making contact with the holes in the comp! I opened up the comp's holes a bit, and all is well
  2. Thanks You suggestions intrigue me. While staring at this gun for a couple hours after the meltdown, I can see traces of copper around the holes in the comp, which leads me to think that the bullet may be contacting the comp on it's way to the target. I had mentioned in another post that I had to re-install the comp with fresh loc-tite, as it had loosened while getting re-blued. I have clamped the frame in a vice, and turned the adjustment knobs of the PDP3, the dot moves up/down and side-to-side like it's supposed to. I was tapping it with a small hammer, and I could not make the dot jump around or lose position?
  3. That has been my understanding as well, the dot stops lighting.
  4. Yes, all ammo from the same batch, 5gr of 231 over a Berry's 130 plated RN, starline Brass, CCI primers
  5. In another thread, this member said,
  6. Oh, harbinger of doom! Looks like that PDP3 "let go" today. I went from shooting nice little groups to spraying shots in a 2-foot pattern!
  7. The memory groove as Ed Brown calls it helps me to positively disengage the grip safety, every time and with a high grip
  8. I also dis assembled the gun, and everything looks in order. Comp is tight, nothing out of the ordinary.
  9. While playing at the range today with my new-to-me circa 1993 open gun, I suddenly went from shooting nice little groups to spraying shots around in a 2 foot pattern. The mount is tight to the frame, and the scope tight in the WCPI mounting rings. The red dot is still glowing red, but the shots are scattered. Is this the symptom of a Tasco PDP3BD that has busted internally?
  10. My Brother had nothing but trouble running a Docter on a 9mm 1911. It had to back to Germany twice for repair (which took some time). Now he has it on a 22. He got sick of it failing. I know there are many who had/have great results using a slide-mounted Docter
  11. Yep, I had the gold bead front sight, but found out I'm not a "gold bead kinda guy"
  12. I had been using 5 grains of 23i under a Berry's plated 130 grain bullet in both my single-stack and 627 revolver for shooting steel. I tried 5.4 grs and 5.7 grs, and accuracy suffered to the point that keeping 10 shots @ 50' on a silhouette target was a chore! Never seen nothin' like it. It appears the plated bullets just don't like to get pushed very fast? As jmaass recommended I'll be trying out a more suitable powerder for some crankin' 38 Super loads. Rekon I'll try #7 first
  13. Yep, de-horning. Some would call what you did a "melt" job. At any rate, nice work! I've never had it done, but Black T is highly regarded.
  14. While burning the midnight oil I hacked in an undercut triggerguard, and blended the front edge of the grip frame to match the radius of the STI magwell, I also swapped out the grip safety for a new Ed Brown Memory groove unit, and this one actually functions. I prefer a grip safety that works as designed
  15. Virgil Tripp was the "T" in STI
  16. Me, I want to know more about the girl, but then again, I like girls
  17. I like that 002 holster. Do you know particular model # yours is? I see there are 3 different #'s for S&W revo's. What modifications did you do, other that removing the loop?
  18. After I bought my first 625 (a model of 1989) I soon bought another. Followed that by getting a 627 in 38 Super. For reasons unknown, I shoot the 625's better?
  19. I keep the chambers clean. The rest of the gun, not so much. It's my opinion that more damage can be done by overzealous cleaning than just letting the gun thrive in it's natuarl state of funkiness.
  20. I have the one that's a modified vice-grip. The kit comes with a block that stradles the plunger tube, and a pin that you insert into the plunger tube so it doesn't get crushed. Great tool...a little pricey but it works well
  21. Don't worry, mine has already turned a sickening brownish-gray after just about 500 rounds
  22. WOW! pretty spectacular!
  23. Hmm, I wonder if after the case blow-out, if a little piece of brass didn't get imbedded into the plastic magwell?
  24. nYdGeo, Has the grip on your gun been re-textured and/or relieved under the trigger guard? just curious
