Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I ended up at 3.15-3.2 average on the TG. The length is a little long so I'm going to push them back in some, seemed to hang up in the mags. at 1.155. The couple I test fired were super soft. Am I going to have pressure issues if I push them in a little more? May go to the above mentioned 1.130 OAL.
  2. Thanks guys, I'll play around with some at 3.0 and 3.2 this weekend.
  3. I have searched many pages and not found the answer I had hoped to so yet another 9mm load question. Here's the load I'm thinking of. Stock G17 9mm 147 plated Rainier HP 3.0g titegroup 1.155 OAL Mixed brass cci primers Not looking for min power factor, just a nice soft shooting load that will knock some steel down and puch holes in cardboard at our local matches. We are not sanctioned and it is more about killing an afternoon than fierce competition. Does this load sound like it is shooter friendly? Flip
  4. I've got a 12.5" SBR on the back burner right now. I went with 12.5 because there is a little more accuracy and better ballistics than with the 10". YMMV. When I mean ballistics, I mean the ability of the bullet to frag under 100 yards. I will be running a can on mine also with a Noveske switch block. As far as piston goes, it should run just fine chopped down.
  5. I have a KT frame that had the ejector holes misdrilled so I got it cheap. From what I know KT did the run and there were a bunch of complications in heat treat batch. How dead set are you on having to be 80%? There is this guy http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb/gunsmithing/fs-60ish-1911-castings-4140-17-4-ss-17-4-ss-w-rail-212649/ that is selling some castings that are closer to 10% than 80%. He is the only one I am aware of right now that has something going on. I think he is having them cast overseas and shipped, between the last batch and this one was a few months. Sarco for slides if you are wanting to tinker with one of their mostly completes.
  6. I really don't have a smith nearby so that route may be out the window. Would it be reasonable to fit everything and send the barrel to someone to finish ream? I am trying to do the whole thing myself just to see if I can, this includes machining out my own 2011 frame and fitting everything. If I fail I fail, this is more of a test of patience for me. Not trying to build a race gun or anything since I don't (or havn't) shot any other matches besides my local one. ETA: I have the AGI video set on 1911 and I feel confidant that most of the build is within my skill set and tooling/machinery I have on hand as long as I take my time. Well, that is with the exception of the the stinking chamber reamers
  7. The reaming thing is what I want to avoid. Not really wanting to spend a couple hundo on reamers, would rather put that into better parts. Who has finished chambers?
  8. Still collecting parts for a limited build in 40 and have just about everything but the barrel. I'm thinking clark ramp, bushing barrel but something that has a long hood that I can fit to my slide and chamber/headspace already done. Who has somthing like this?
  9. The intent is to use the STI frame for Limited and the other frame for single stack. What I use will depend on how lazy I feel that day, 3 or 4 reloads vs. 1.
  10. If I wanted to purchase a 2011 frame for limited which would I choose? Cal would be 40 and slide and barrel will do double duty with a single stack frame. So many choices, not sure which will fit the bill. Caspian 5" slide and probably a para/clark ramped barrel, have yet to by barrel so convince me if I need to go with a nowlin ramp, oh and frame is not cut yet for ramped barrel.
  11. Yep, it might take a little bit of trim to be 3.25" or less, but you also want to consider weight since the max weight is 43oz with a magazine....long dust covers do add some weight. R, You bring up a good point with the mags. and I have yet to ask about them but what/who is recommended for 8 round 40 mags?
  12. I will do updates as this progresses. Talented is something I am not, I graduated from wood butcher to metal butcher. We'll see, I may screw this thing up bad too, 50/50 chance of something going bad wrong from this point to trigger pull.
  13. Read it but it was kind of vague. Permitted features "Factory installed light rail attachments if the dust cover is no longer than 3.25 inches measured from the rear of the slide stop pin to the front of the dust cover." This is the only reference I could find in the USPSA rules that apply to a front rail in SS. If indeed it is too long that is not a prob, can always chop a little off the front to meet rules. I have not measured it yet but it looks pretty close to 3.25 inches. If this could be clarified I would appreciate it.
  14. OK, so this looks like it will be a SS gun since I don't believe with my shooting ability I can hang in a limited division. So now the question is major or minor and why? 9mm you get two more in the mag but scored minor, .40 or .45 you are major but don't have as many pills. My head is going to explode.
