  1. I went by his shop this morning and left a copy of your topic listed on the forum on his door. He works weird hours like 8 pm till early morning hours. Past my bed time.......... Thanks!!
  2. Need some help. Per Johnny's instruction, a month ago I sent him my son's Limcat open gun for repair (cracked slide). He gave me no time frame and just told me to send it in and he would see what he could do. Since shipping the gun (and confirming w/fedex it was delivered) I've not been able to reach Johnny for a status. His website is down, he has not returned my emails and his phone number has no MSG and goes to a fax tone. Was hoping someone local to his shop or with his personal contact info could get in touch with him for me. Getting a little nervous at this point. Feel free to PM or email me or call my cell 413 539-1104 if you don't want to post here. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks, Nick-
  3. I'm now running a Swarovski v6i w/ CDi reticle and a Trijicon TR24G (green triangle reticle) on my 3gun rifles. In short, I really like them both. Swarovski -beautiful/clear glass. -huge fov and good eye relief. -daytime ill. is good, but not as bright as meopta or trijicon. -CDi circle dot reticle is fast, but I think I like the simplicity of the TR24 green triangle. -on / off ill. switch is easy to use and it remembers your last intensity setting. -scope is big and a little heavy on my JP. -1-6x is sweet. Mag ring is easy to turn. -elevation turret is small and does not have good markings. Need tape, paint or other markings to dial elevation. -reticle is easy to focus. TR24 -glass is clear, but not as nice as Swar. certainly good enough for 3gun. -good fov and eye relief. -ill is awesome. Ability to adj fo brightness a plus. -like the green triangle post. Easy to shoot and my eye is drawn to the tip. -love the elevation/windage turret. Much better than the Swar turret as it is larger and better marked. -true 1-4x. -size of scope is perfect on 3gun rifle. -reticle is easy to focus. Can't go wrong with either optic. Shot both out to 300 yesterday and both did the job easily. Have to go to a different range for 300+. Hope to do that soon. For the price difference, the TR24 is a great value. Nick-
  4. Just an update for those interested....my buddy bought a Swarovski V6i before my TR24 came in. I made the mistake of looking through this scope. WOW. What a great piece of glass. Super clear glass, crisp 1.5moa dot (he got the 4i reticle which is the cross hair with ill center dot), dot was nice and bright even in bright sun, easy to adjust dot brightness, easy to turn magnification ring, large FOV, 1X and 6X rocks.....only down side was the elevation turret as there are no numbers. The elevation is 1/2moa which will mean less clicks for distance. There is an triangle on the elevation turret that you could line up with a mark you make below the turret for different distances if you didn't want to count clicks. Today I got in my TR24. Was not happy. The only thing I liked was the elevation turret that would make dialing dope a breeze. Didn't like the reticle. I thought the cross hair was too thick and I didn't care for the dot. It was bright enough (amber), but it wasn't nice and crisp like my Meopta or the Swarovski dot. Playing with the amount of fiber that is covered helped a little, but overall I didn't care for it. Sending it back. Bummer.......
  5. Hey Guys, Thanks for all the input. I found a TR24-3 (amber dot) to try at a good price. Should be in next week. Someday, hope to be able to get a Swarovski, but at a third the cost, I'll give the TR24 a try first. I too think the dot is the way to go for precision shots. I like the triangle, but would rather put a dot on the plate. According to the guy at Trijicon the dot is 1.9moa at 4X. The dot in a Meopta is 2moa at 4X. I thought the TR24 dot was smaller, but this is what he said. Regarding dialing dope over holding over, it is a personal choice. I've always held over, but wished I could dial. I too thought dialing would be slow, but at Benning last years I talked to several shooters who dialed their dope beyond 300 yards and were some of the fastest on the LR rifle stage. I got all the targets using a Burris XTR with the hold over stadia lines, but I didn't like it. I really like a day time ill. dot as well. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks, Nick-
  6. Charles, 00, thanks for the info. I'll give the TR24-3 a try. 00, I'm surprised about the green dot washing out, but I'll take your word for it. Best, Nick.
  7. Looking to put one of these (German #4 cross hair with green dot) on my 20" 3gun rifle. My 16" rifle now wears my Meopta and is my 300 yrd and in gun. For matches beyond 300 I want to dial my elevation. I've tried holding over with both the Meopta and the Burris XTR and don't like it. I want to dial and hold on the plate beyond 300. I think the TR24 may be what I want as long as the elevation knob is easy to use/grab and the scope will reliably return to zero. My other choice is a NF 1-4X24, but I really want a daytime ill. reticle. Can't swing the Swarovski 1-6X. For those who have the TR24, have you tried dialing your dope/elevation at longer ranges? Can someone please post a pic of the elevation knob with cap off. Does the scope return to zero when dialing dope? I know these are hard to find. Anyone know of a shop that has them in stock? Thanks, Nick-
  8. Good match under bad conditions. Appreciate everyone who made it happen. Nice job on the prize table. Have not seen guns and cash prizes at a smaller (but challenging and well run) match in a long time. Best, Nick-
  9. Welcome to the forum, newbie. 3.5g of TG with Zero 180jhp @ 1.135oal (only difference between that and my major 40 load is the amount of powder) Same load I use Nelson, This is my minor production load in my G35. I run a 15lb ISMI recoil spring for both limited and production. Hope all is well my friend. Nick-
  10. Saw this and thought some of you may be interested. In a nut shell the government will no longer sell their .223 or .308 brass to commercial reloaders. Georgia Arms has already posted that they will no longer be selling this ammo. The gov't is also blocking Canada from importing any of their brass as well. http://www.shootingwire.com/archives/2009-03-16 Nick-
  11. Couldn't agree more. Movie sucked.
  12. Considering a Trijicon AccuPoint 3-9X with either the mildot or crosshair reticle w/amber dot for a utility .308 gas gun I have. Have not shot an accupoint with a crosshair or mildot reticle. Was also wondering if the amber dot will wash out on sunny days. I like Trijicon's red triangle as it is nice and bright. However, they don't offer the red dot with the crosshair or mildot reticle. Any input would be appreciated. Happy New Year, Nick-
  13. Rich, Good idea...I actually had the newer Trijicon TA20 3-9X on the list of choices for this rifle. Only downside is no elevation turret (finger adj.). Best, Nick
  14. GIO I shot a TA11 on a .223 for three gun years ago and liked the scope at distance, but not up close. I can shoot 4X out to 500 pretty well (knock on wood...eyes are still pretty good.) That said a little more magnification on a .308 would be nice. This is why I was also thinking Leupold 2.5-8X. A buddy runs the IOR 1.5-8X for 3gun (bad eyes too) and he likes it. Down side of that scope is that it is very heavy. Merry Christmas.
  15. I thought about another Meopta for my .308 as I run one on my 3gun rifle. However, I have a certificate for $100 of a Trijicon (plus I can get a LE discount) and was thinking of trying something new (TA11E) for fun. Just wondering how the TA11E works out on a flat top 308 gas gun.
  16. Didn't realize my son was signed on to his BE account when I posted this topic. Anyway, its me who was looking for the info on the TA11E or other .308 recommended optics. I should have mentioned above, I don't want a big scope on this rifle. Trying to keep magnification and overall scope size/weight down. Best, Nick-
  17. Uppers are few and far between based on my research. I suggest calling Benny at Triangle or George at GA Precision and get an upper ordered. JP is no longer building rifles or uppers on dpms receivers, only their complete rifle and no their upper will not fit a DPMS lower. JP's use DPMS mags, but that is where it ends. Clarks does not have any uppers either. Hope this helps. Nick-
  18. I know your post was on ranging with the K-dot, but you had also mentioned some poi info. I got the info from KurtM below and thought it may be useful to someone. Kurt uses a load at 55gr. NBT @ 3150fps or XM173 for the below hold-overs. I shot some 55gr. NBT at 500 the other day and it did activate a flasher. Nick- The Meopta retical DOES do hold over out to 500. Zreo the center of the dot at 250yds the 200 yard zero is top of the dot. the bottom of the dot is 300 the top of the vertical post is 400 and the bottom is 500. What could be easier? I know there aren't any cross marks but it has worked well for many Meopta shooters! KurtM
  19. Good idea. You could just call it a rifle optics forum, and include optic discussions for 3gun, MOR, Sniper Comps, etc.
  20. Thanks Kurt. Great info. I appreciate it. Nick-
  21. I just got one with a Larue mount. I normally run a Meopta, but wanted an optic with a hold-over reticle for matches with targets past 300. Side by side, I'd rather run the Meopta. I think the glass is brighter/clearer on the Meopta and the ill. dot is much faster to acquire and easier to shoot (for me.) The XTR ill reticle does not show up in day light. It is very bright inside and in low light. That said, the XTR reticle seems like it will work with my load (55gr. NBT @ 3050). I'm going to try it at 400 and 500 yards next week to see what she does. It has been good out to 300 so far. If Meopta ever comes out with an ill. reticle with hold-overs, that would be the one for me. Nick-
  22. Limcat built my son an open gun at age 11 (he is now 15) on an SV frame. It is basically a shorty with hybrid bbl and steel 3port comp. Cal is 38sc and I just loaded minor for him initially. He cut and rewelded the thumb safety so it would be easier for him to reach. He also thinned the grip. Short curved trigger. He has had no problem shooting this gun.
  23. I can't even begin to express in words how wonderful an experience this was for my son and I. The camp/training was World Class. As Nemo said, any parent who did not have the opportunity to take their kid(s), I HIGHLY recommend it if offered next year. As the saying goes......."it just don't get any better than that." A huge thank you to the AMU Action Shooting Team, SFC Hampton, MGM Targets, Rob Leatham, and all the sponsors. You are all truely wonderful people. Best, Nick Weidhaas
  24. 26grs. of H335 w/55gr. Hornady Nosler Ballistic Tip, loaded to 2.240oal. 3030fps out of a 20" JP bbl. Very accurate. 26grs is over the published powder weight, so work up slowly. I have no pressure signs and know folks who load even a little hotter with this combo. Nick-
