  1. Rob gave me 2 boxes of this ammo to try. I thought it was great. Ammo was very accurate out of my SV (as accurate as my handload, 180gr. Zero HP w/4.7 gr. TG, 1.190OAL). POA/POI was the same as my load. It felt nice and I had no failures of any kind. The only downside (if you can call it that) was that the load was not as clean as my TG load. It is definetly an option to consider. I did not chrono the ammo, but as I understand it, shooters that buy this ammo at a match will get a pass on the chrono station. Hope this hepls, Nick-
  2. How about these pumpkins!!! Carved by the wife of a shooter at the Harvard Sportsman's Club in MA (IPSC club is the Harvard Action Shooters or HAS.) I proudly won them with the fastest time on a speed shotgun stage. 6 poppers and a pumpkin for 7 shots minimun. Fastest time won these works of art. Pretty cool.... Nick-
  3. Have only driven to 3gun matches. When you fly to bigger matches do you bring some type of folding cart that can be checked as luggage to carry your gear from stage to stage? I know you can always just hump all your gear, but was hoping you might have a recommendation on a 3gun gear cart/carrier that you can take to matches when you fly? Thanks, Nick-
  4. Open gun to train for limited or production: Quick story regarding my 12yr old son and our experience with this......... My son has been shooting centerfire pistols for 2 years, since age 10. He started shooting IDPA and then USPSA at age 11. A year ago this past July, we got him an open gun after he took a class with Todd J. Todd told us that if he really wants to learn to shoot and improve faster to get him an open gun. He said the open gun (dot) shows/teaches you so much and allows you to do things so much faster that when you go back to limited, you carry over much of what you learned with the open gun. That said, I worked a bunch of OT and got the boy a gun. Now prior to shooting an open gun my son shot a single stack Caspian limited gun in .38sup. He had not touched his limited since getting his open gun. Last week he wanted to shoot some IDPA with me and we pulled out his single stack. He shot really well, made 1st round head shots on swingers (target called for 2 body 1 head), no misses, down few points. I was amazed at how well he shot his limited gun after not shooting it for a year. The time with his open gun really seemed to help his limited gun skills. You would not of known that he had not shot the limited gun for the last year. Although not really scientific, it seemed to prove what Todd had told us. Nick-
  5. That is the same young man, and he is a good kid, very eager to participate. He will be much more experienced by the time Camp Shootout rolls around. If there is anything you can recommend he do to prepare and improve, I am sure it would be appreciated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was giving him pointers during the match. I try to get them across in a way they think about it enough so they see what they did or know what to look for. Nothing like seeing it on your own, then it sticks with you. Just telling a fellow shooter do it the way i do isnt going to go very far. I tell you what has me really frustrated is my own son, 13, started shooting this year. He shoots a glock and his trigger jerk is so bad. We work on it and it gets better then all of a sudden we shoot a stage and he is bouncing rounds off the ground way in front of the target or putting them in the bottom d zone or a no shoot if its there. I ahve tried everything I know. Give him an unloaded gun and he jerks it way down. He sees it but it just doesnt seem to help. I tell him to concentrate on squeezing the trigger at the same time as he holds the sights on target. I explain it requires concentration on both at the same time. Most have this problem becuase they put the sights on target then their mind leaves that task and goes to the trigger and the sights move. This boy had some of the same problem but not near as bad. I will help him whenever i can. Maybe he can shoot with my boys soon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Chuck- RE: Your son's trigger jerk issue: My son Nick (age 12) had the same promblem with trigger jerk. What we learned was that he was "thinking about or focusing on" the trigger pull and not putting his focus where it needed to be, on the sights. The fix came when he got to participate in a Todd Jarrett class and Todd was covering shooting on the move. Well guess what happened when we started shooting on the move?? Nick stopped jerking the trigger and made nice hits. Why? Todd said, and I agree, it was because of the added difficulty of shooting on the move, Nick focused on his front sight while he was moving. He wasn't thinking about the trigger any more. His hard focus was the front sight and his subconscious pulled the trigger.......no more trigger jerk. This experience allowed him to see/experience the difference himself and it has not been a real problem since. He also went to Camp Shootout last summer. I can't say enough about it. His confidence and increased skill level after he returned was pretty cool. Hope this helps. Nick-
  6. Part of the reliability issue with a 9mm in a single stack compared to a .38super is that the 9mm is a tapered bullet. When stacked in a single stack mag, the front of the bullets wants to nose dive. Had a single stack 9mm built for my son. We tried every mag available and could not get the gun to run reliably due to the 9mm mags. Had the bbl rechambered for .38super and with .38 super-comp or TJ brass the gun runs liked a scalded cat (use Wilson .38sup mags). The straight case of the .38 super works better IMHO in tha single stack mag than a 9mm. The .38sup is also longer, which aids in feeding. That said, in a double stack magazine (STI, SV, Para) the 9mm guns I've seen works great. The tapered profile of the 9mm is not an issue in a double stack mag. Nick-
  7. Got mine from him in a month. I can't image in taking any longer than 8 weeks. Nick
  8. Another vote for George at GAP. Just got a DPMS LR-308 (AR10) from him and it rocks. Nick-
  9. Cuz, Sent you a PM on the SV and explaining MA law regarding the purchase of an SV. It can be done, no problem. Best, Nick-
  10. bbrcape- An SVI limited gun can be ordered from any dealer in the country and shipped to an FFL in MA for transfer to you. I'd start with SVI. If it is a long wait, check the classifieds here on BE and USPSA. You can post a want to buy ad on these forums. Also check www.gunsamerica.com and www.gunbroker.com. I'd also give JP rifles a call (www.jprifles.com). They sometimes have SV's in stock. You can also order just a frame from SV and send it to a pistol smith of your choice for a build. Hey I just thought of a friend her in MA that may be selling an SV short dustcover limited gun. Great shape. Not fired much. Email me if you are interested and I'll check with him. Another route is to go with a Glock 22. Can be shot in USPSA Limited, L10 and IDPA (loaded minor). Inexpensive way to get into the game and you can find used G22's in MA. Trigger job, magwell, and sights will get you going in limited. Will need at least 4 hi-cap mags. Dawson base pad will give you 19 rounds of .40. Chuck D- New Glocks can still NOT be purchased in MA except by LE. There are 2nd and 3rd gen mass compliant guns out there that can be either sold by a dealer or transfered from person to person. 11. Nemo, Great report. My son Nick was there at camp with you all. He had a great time. Thanks for giving us all the day to day time line. Best, Nick Sr.
  12. Great. Thanks for adding Tactical. I plan on attending. Nick-
  13. Are you offering a tactical rifle division or just open and limited? Thanks, Nick-
  14. JP is not offering a 1:8 18" right now based on my last covnersation with them a few months ago. 1:8 is only available in their 20" lw barrel, off the shelf. Nick-
  15. Running a TA-11 with JP close range iron sights. Love the combo. Shot three matches with it now. Only problem I had was with the transitions on the closer targets that were spread out with the TA-11 due to fov (did not have confidence in the JP iron sights and were not using them effectively.) However, I'm more comfortable with the JP irons now. I'm learning where I can get away with the irons (faster/large fov) and where I need to transition to the TA-11 and vise versa. Definetly takes some getting use to. Practice and match experience, like anything else, is the key. I really like the ability to go from hoser to precison targets in a stage without having to adj. magnificaiton. The KISS principle works for me I guess. Nick-
  16. I have a JP 20" lw weight bbl. and love it. I was also unsure what length / weight upper to get and got the following info from JP. The following info is regarding JP's 18" and 20" bbls. A 18" JP medium weight bbl is .650 under the handguards and .875 in front of the gas block. A JP 20" light weight bbl shares the same specs as a 18" bbl. Other words, a 18" JP medium weight bbl is a 20" JP lw bbl. with two inches cut off. 1:8 twist bbls are available only in the 20" guns, off the shelf. The Ultra Light Weight bbl. is available in 18" only and measures .500 under the handguards and .750 in front of the gas block. Ultra Light bbl weighs about 1lb less than a med weight bbl. A JP15 with a 18" medium weight bbl. weighs 7.4lbs. The stainless steel JP gas block weighs 5oz. more than their aluminum gas block. Hope this helps. Nick-
  17. The match results are posted on Square Deal's web site if anyone is interested. Nice match Louie. Best, Nick-
  18. Tewlman sent me some pics of this new scope (objective) cover for the TA11. It looks really nice. The cover is held in place via the hole in the TA11 mount under the objective. It is looks really great and can't wait to get one. Nick-
  19. I have a straight and a curved. The straight is in an Armalite lower with a JP upper. I shoot Ultramax 55gr. Nos. BT and some Win. white box. No problems to date. Have about 1500 rounds on this trigger. The curved trigger has about 500 rounds on it in a different lower with no problems as of yet. Nick-
  20. I sent Tewlman an PM regarding his cover. He said that it is still in prototype stage and no price has been worked out. He promised to post pics of the prototype soon. Nick-
  21. I use a JP close range iron sight mounted on my handguard. I picked up a AR fiber optic front sight from Brownells and replaced the plastic front sight post that comes with the JP sight. The FO front sight post rocks. It is really fast to pick up and easy to shoot. Nick-
  22. I shoot a TA11 as well. I looked through a JP ACOG (TAO1 with their reticle) on Sunday. It has the same eye relief as the TA31. I had to move my head much closer to the scope to use it. It wasn't bad, just different. That said, I like the eye relief on the TA11 better. Nick-
  23. I shot the NY Square Deal Rifle Match Sunday. I found that it was easiest to use the JP close range iron sights mounted on the handguard for those targets that didn't require a precision shot. I replaced the front sight with a fiber optic AR front sight I got out of Brownells. The FO front sight is much better than the colored plastic front sight post that comes with the sight. When I did go to the ACOG, I transitioned from right to left whenever possible. This let me pick up the next target with my left eye as a right handed shooter. Worked well and was much more comfortable with the set up. Thanks, Nick-
  24. I shot on Sunday. Great match. Louie and crew did a great job. Will be there for the next one. Nick-
  25. I should have mentioned, I am a right handed shooter, right eye dominant, and my non dominant (left) eye is open. I am also an experienced rifle shooter, just not with the TA11 which is new to me. One of my thoughts was to try and transition right to left so my left or non dominant eye could pick up the next target first. Was hoping someone had figured out a technique with the TA11 for transitions. I've always shot a non magnified optic on my rifles (Aimpoint M2 or EoTech) and transistions were never a problem. If it is just a matter of practice, then I'll put my time in. Thanks, Nick-
