  1. What hoMie said. I was shooting at rifle targets, but could also make out pieces of clays. My G34 is about 3" high at 25 Yd, so i'm pretty on at 100 Yds
  2. I put together about 500 rounds of Win. 115 FMJs over some HS6 (to get rid of both). This week i went to the rifle range to chrono a bunch of stuff. After abusing myself with the 4" 500 Mag, i shot at some clay pigeons at 100 yds with the FMJs in the G34. They were insane accurate. About 4 of 5 would have fit in a 6" circle (standing); 5th may have been me, hard to say. I've had some 40s that would shoot hard, but i thought that was pretty accurate. As much as i love my MT Gold, i haven't seen accuracy like that from them (yet). Anyone else find this, esp in a G34?
  3. oh boy, sorry i missed the blast. That stage sounded like a good one. Those blind ones are fun. Crazy Croc's, in OR, has a true blind match every year. And their stages are 60 round MIN.!!! That is a really good time, bring lots of ammo! I love shooting with the M's, inspiring. But, it can get me in trouble...
  4. Nice group indeed. i remember going thru a tactical shooting course and 80% of shooters shot the 'witness'. True to comments above, most no shoots are shot in the badge or cell phone in hand. Very realistic as we've seen the same thing while doing Simunition training: guys' hands and guns are the most likely thing to be shot. Target fixation maybe.
  5. So went to a new range this weekend for a local match. Ended up with some great examples. Had a good time and learned some lessons. Most stages went well with one M on the transition to weak hand - practice weakhand more. Note to self on steel at distance - make them count. Only dropped 2 extra on a 20 plate stage. The Arredondo +6 worked well in first match. Loading up to 23 is a nice start to a stage; need to get more of them. May be time to try the Lightning Strike striker before the next weekend's local steel challenge.
  6. I used up some 320 and liked it okay (same for 40 & 45). I've played with TG (snappy & residue, potential DOUBLE CHARGE volumes!), Bullseye (good), Amer Select (okay), HS6 (soot all over me, gun, other shooters), & Univ (also, good). I don't clean my gun often so i want cleaner burning; i hate soot/flake on me & my equipment; look for something readily available (not VV, though it is nice); also looking for at least 70% fill (TG does not); and prefer not to use over 6.0 grains (for most rounds/pound/$). Also looking for something versatile for the PF and about 99% burn (no/low flash). I may never know the difference between Univ & Bullseye. American Select is nice, but flat flake can be tough on consistancy/accuracy. At the end of the day, there is likely NO perfect powder or 6 perfect powders for every possible situation. Read this site to find what others think of other powders. Load lots & shoot often!
  7. After reloading with HS6, to burn it up, i shot some Bill Drills today at 7 yds. Went thru about 200 rounds, 6 at a time. Most of my first shots were 1.2-1.3 seconds, then a pause (think i have arthritis), then splits of .18-.25. Most of my 6 shot strings were about 2.3 with fair accuracy (not all A's). It is hard to tell inside on paper how the hits go, unless i change the paper every time. This drill would work best at the outdoor range with paperplates on my 6-target stands. Hoping to have steel soon, then record on tape for study/playback (or until i can 'observe' my shots at this speed). Best times were 2.06, unsure on hits. FYI, HS6 is sooty and 200 rounds leaves my arms filthy. That was 6.5 gr under a 115 MT JHP at 1.14" w/ WSP from a G34. Flash and smoke were low and brass was moderately dirty. There was some tan residue around the muzzle/front sight. Pistol was pretty hot as well. Also, got a Arrendo +5 mag extension (& the correct spring) and it has about 100 rounds thru it. Will look to acquire more for Limited play. Would prefer over Lighting Strike aluminum one, only is +2. OH, and i'm a C L-10 shooter, who has been 'out of the sport' for a five years.
  8. I've used AA on Glock and burnt up 3 barrels in 6 months. They are designed to lock back on last round, if you use heavy/fast ammo. I got a refund for that and bought a Ceiner one, but it doesn't lock back. After 3000 rounds, the Ceiner still didn't function too well, so i sold it and went back to a AA. Now i'm likely just to spend the $ on reload components for full caliber practice... FWIW
  9. If you're just looking for the info, not many reasons to get the hard copy manual. If you are new to reloading, buy a Sierra, Lyman, etc... It has tons of good info in it.
  10. i'm with G-man: JHP & CMJ are cleaner. I like not having a cloud of smoke (lube, lead, powder, & primer crap) around when i shoot. i've been using MG jhp for about 5 yrs, they are only 2/10th of a penny more than fmj. AND my local indoor range won't allow lead based bullets, so it is a near 'must' for me.
  11. Don't know why, this morning just dropped on (as it should). Thanks.
  12. lugnut, I used up my TG and am using up my Bullseye. I use 4.5 grains under a MG 115 JHP for about 130 PF. It is pretty clean and will get about 1500 rounds per lb. I can also use it for 40, 45, 38 Spec, 357 Mag... I'm trying to get down to a few pistol and few rifle powders then buy my powder by the 8 lb keg. The other pistol powder i want to stick with is PowerPistol. Have fun; be safe
  13. I just got in my replacement part from Dillon. Now the clamp (with two hex bolts) doesn't seem to close completely around the powder funnel. Any tips? I may try using the old clamp, as it was the arm on the main body that broke on the old part. Thanks
  14. At the A8 3G someone told me the longest target is 335 yds. Is there a standard size for a target at that distance? The 2 MOA straight power may be okay under good-ideal conditions on a metric (or that size steel). I don't have access to anything over 100 Yd, at this time.
  15. I'm a rodeo clown. That's what we used to tell the girls. I was a frog in the Navy until the week before 9/11. I started security consulting with Blackwater for 5 yrs and have been doing some UAV work for a few years now. Time to find something in the US, preferrably mountain west. Anyone want me?
  16. i used to use VV320, but ran out and don't want to pay so much for powder. i've used TG, Univ. Clays, and Bullseye lately. I ran out of TG and have used most of my Bullseye loading for 3 gun last weekend. The UC left a tan residue on the muzzle after 200-300 rounds. For now, it seems Bullseye will be my next 8# keg. 4.4 gr under a 115 MG jhp at 1.14" make 11?? fps out of my stock G34. It will also support 40 & 45 major as well as 38 Spec, etc. Like others said, many powders will work. Either get a handful of 'em and do good comparisons over a chrono OR get one 8#er and get busy reloading/shooting. If you shoot a CMJ/TMJ/JHP, you will see most powders are pretty clean compared to anything with exposed lead to bore or powder. Some powders to leave a flakey residue on your arms, etc. If you really want to get the bug, buy Quickload software and a chronograph (but be warned you will lose friends & family). I'm trying to consolidate to a few pistol & a few rifle. I'm burning up a handful of 'extra' powders laying around now, one pound at a time.
  17. Okay, so after reading this thread i went to Dick's today and fondled the 930 SPX they had. Nate likey. It was as simple as i hoped. It seems to be as simple as i want an auto to be. I have used Mossbergs since i was 12, including 8 years in the Navy (VERY few problems). But the SPX seems simple enough and priced right. It is Glock simple with only three buttons. As mentioned, could use someplace to put a sling and i would miss the heat shield on my 590 (or skin on my right palm...)
  18. CWT- I think we met on Rifle only when someone lost their pistol. Alan & Howard- Thanks so much. Great match. This was my first 3 gun & i'm a junky now. I'm a C L-10 guy but thought every stage was very reasonable. The slug stage & rifle only were great at seperating those who practice & sight-in from those who don't. I took away many lessons (see the my shooting log). I couldn't believe i only needed 15 slugs for that stage and only missed two rifle shots at 200 yds (using Aimpoint). I met lots of new people and hope to see them all at more local shoots...

    Glock 34

didn't get random lock back, but a few weeks ago i couldn't get lock back on anything. several mentioned the extended release swapped to standard and like black magic, the standard works PERFECT. +1 standard release
  20. My first 3 gun, Area 8 Jun 28 2008- Anxious but prepared. I still don't understand the difference in Limited/Tactical/etc, but got it corrected. Gear: Pistol- G34 with Lightning Strike s/s rod, Glockmiester brass magwell, Mepro night sights in Uncle Mike's belt loop holster Mags- 5 stock G17 mags, in a 4 mag flexible nylon holder 1x4, not 2x2 Ammo- handloads with various range brass, 115 MT JHP over 4.5 gr Bullseye, WSP, at 1.14" Rifle- Coltmaster with 16" pencil brl, YH Alum FF Tube (rifle length), regular bird cage, Samco pistol grip, folding stock with CAA cheekpiece Optic- M3 2 MOA Aimpoint zero'd at 50 yds Mags- 3 classic GI alum, black followers, 1 in a single flexible nylon holder (belt), Ammo- factory PMC 55 fmj Shotgun- M590 with neoprene stock +6 holder & Mossberg ghostring rear/ blade front (sighted for slugs at 25 yd) Mag- M60 mag pouch (holds 60+ rounds); left over from Navy days Ammo- factory winchester light target, Winchester low recoil slug I tried to wear all my gear, in the same configuration, thru the whole match. From my tactical days, i don't want to have to think about every stage and where i put the ??? on my belt that stage. As expected, hiccups on every other stage. A fumbled AR mag change, a light strike on the G34, and FTE a full metric at 3 yds with AR... BUT what a blast! Pros: Go to the match a day early to see the actual stages Taking one shot at 3 clays at 20yds, works with a stock M590 barrel: one hole per clay, aim at the center of the group! Slugs really do shoot well at 50 yds, in the kneeling... 200 yds isn't too far for a 16" pencil barrel, properly sighted Aimpoint, 55 FMJ PMC ammo, and some practice Who cares if the ground is wet, go prone at 200 yd targets... Discreetly discuss inconsistancies with RSOs Lessons Learned (LL): Watch the shooters before you Engage every target, 4 holes is better than 0 holes (re-engage just in case) I think everyone's first 3 gun match should be free! Then it would be just like crack!
  21. I've used Aimpoints during military and private security for over a decade (around the world) and can't complain about any of them. They keep getting better. At the A8 3 gun this weekend it served well from 5 yds to 200 yds (12" stell, offhand). It was a 2 MOA M model with a 50 yd zero using 55 fmj PMC thru a 16" pencil barrel. Did i mention it rained too, no fog. Perhaps a 1 moa, 2x would be good to over 300+ yds.
  22. Ran my first 3 gun this weekend, Area 8. WHAT A BLAST! My M590 was great with ghost ring, including slugs. While in the Navy, we used (& abused) several 500's and they may not be perfect, but they are as close as i've seen for general purpose. I'm now interested in an auto and just saw the 930 SPX. It may be some time but i'll keep an eye on this thread and try to find one at the range to borrow for some intimate touching.
  23. Congrats! We are almost out of the woods for 1st trimester for our first. Hoping for a male gunslinger, but they make pink cammie too (to match the wife). Enjoy your new gift.
  24. Chris, Good point. i think i'll stick to 9 minor for now. Need to get back into the game.
