  1. The only parts I keep on hand are the ones that are critical ones like a firing pin, cam pin, trigger/hammer springs and a spare bolt. The gun will still run with other parts broken like the buffer retaining pin. But if you must have spares (another shameless plug) TTi Intl has a small parts kit available for $20 or so. The kit is also available through Brownells
  2. Exactly Also, check and make sure the carrier isn't hitting the pin. Sometimes the pin's hole isn't exactly on-center and the carrier might be hitting the pin.
  3. Yes - it does happen but not that often. You can get replacement parts for the AR from TTI Intl (shameless plug) You might have a different problem instead of the part breaking. Check to make sure its properly being retain by the recr extension (buffer tube).
  4. My story is a little different but here are the details. Brought my first handgun in 1993 and shoot at a local indoor range. Nothing special but wanted to get “good” with it. Read about IPSC competition in various gun magazines like American Handgunner but didn’t know anything about it. An ex-IPSC shooter at the range was holding monthly defensive/tactical shoots and he talked it about and said tried it out. Not sure what he was talking about but thought why not since I got the gun for defensive purposes. Also at the same range, the local IPSC shooters would practice and talk to me about shooting IPSC but I was in the “tactical” mode so I said no thanks. Several years passed and just happened to meet Erik Lund at the shoot one night. He shot the match and did very well and talked to him afterwards. He told me about a class he and Jeff Hoge were teaching and I should take it because it was for “action shooting”. Attended the class in winter 1997 and after several weeks of top-notch instruction, we’re scheduled to shoot my first true IPSC match at Quantico April 1997. Two days before the match my apartment building caught fire and I was homeless. I didn’t want to shoot anything since I had other things on my mind like finding a place to live. My said wife go - it will take your mind off of things since nothing else could be done about our situation over the weekend. Shot the match and finished middle of the pack and ever since that first match I was hooked

    Hair Cuts And Cops

That's good one .... Heard the same joke but with different characters involving a Marine, Army, and Air Force Officers. Guess what showed up on the doorstep ......

    Open Guns

Dang .... wish I was there to encourage you with the planned destruction.
  8. Jim, If you could get a copy of the Benny Cooley article from Front Sight magazine (Nov/Dec 2001?) on how to setup a rifle for 3 gun competition - lots of good information and very informative. As far as AR builders, I would recommend TTI but I'm on the team so I'm bias.
  9. I have to agree with Erik on the use of squared-up/elbows down technique. He taught it to me and it works for me and found it to be superior for shooting on the move. But I don't use the Squared Technique all the time as the stage/COF will dictate the use of a different stance or position. See what works for you. Also, I agree with what Todd S said about the Squared techinque having a high CDI factor and that's always important.
  10. I would recommend them but I'm also on their Team so I'm biased.
  11. Congrs ..... Any pictures yet?
  12. Erik {Prize Boy} I would have to agee .... you need to practice more ....

    Brass

Ditto on what Steve A.'s post said about Armscor 38 Rimless brass. Ran into them at 3-Gun Nationals and told of the problems with cases splitting on the first loading. Even spoke with the main guy. They were surprised and promised to send some more to try again and took my information and said they would get right on it. That was June 30th and I'm still waiting.
  15. I brought 1K to try out and its what Shred said about it. I had about 5 cases split at the mouth after the first loading and the cases are 3-4grs. lighter than Starline SuperComp cases. I'm using them for practice and saving the Starline for the matches.
  16. twix, Yes, the barrel can be floated with any of the free-float tubes on the market.
  17. Steven T, Originally it was setup for general purpose use but I made a few changes for use in the Limited Division. It has fixed sights (A2) with a heavy barrel (.750") which puts the balance forward of the magwell. Since its use is for Limited, I wanted it to on the heavy side to help out with the recoil but with the comp. the extra weight isn't necessary. One good thing about using a dissapator barrel is the increase in the sight radius while keeping the barrel short. I would suggest you shoot what you have and make changes to your liking as you go along. Benny Cooley wrote an article for Front Sight magazine back in Nov/Dec 2002(?) on setting up a rifle for 3-gun which is very informative.
  18. BigDave, I can speak about the gun E. Lund used for the 2001 3-Gun Nationals and as well as several other matches because its mine. I built the gun using a barrel, upper and lower from Bushmaster. Its basically stock except for the TTi Intl. compenstator and some other extras. Erik found the gun to be a favorite and has since built is own using mine as the model. It's worked for him.
  19. The Dissaptor gas system is in the same location as the carbine gas system. What makes the Dissaptor different is the full length iron sights as compared to the carbine. (Edited by Mig at 8:35 am on Jan. 27, 2003)
