  1. JZ - I can't find any where in the rules that allow down-loading . Vickers or limited vickers. Here is what I was able to find off the idpa site: 14. Pistols must start from mechanical condition of readiness appropriate to their design. In general, single-action autos will start cocked and locked (ESP & CDP), double-action autos (SSP) will start hammer-down and locked or unlocked. However, unusual designs may be started in other ways. Selective double-action autos may start cocked and locked or hammer down. Autoloaders MUST begin any Vickers Count string of fire requiring a re-load with the pistol loaded to maximum capacity or the maximum capacity allowed in that division. In the case of SSP division, this will be 11 rounds total. We pretty much agree here. CAN I SHOOT MORE SHOTS AT A TARGET THAN IS SPECIFIED IN THE COURSE DESCRIPTION? YES, as long as the course is specified as a “Vickers Count” stage,, your best hits of the specified number will be scored. On courses designated as “Limited Vickers Count”, you may only fire the specified number of shots. Any extra shots will incur a procedural penalty. There is no mention of mag capacity - I am guessing the rule14 still applies here?? ON STAGES REQUIRING A TACTICAL OR SLIDE LOCK LOAD, CAN I DUMP ROUNDS DOWN RANGE SO I WILL BE ABLE TO RELOAD BY A FASTER METHOD/MORE CONVENIENT LOCATION? YES, however you will receive a “Failure to do right” penalty of 20 seconds for the stage for not negotiating the course in the spirit of the contest. Wouldn't this apply to your last comment - "so you can plan where your reload will be" ? From what I can determine - all stages should start with full capacity , unless a specific action is required in the course design , ,ie , slide lock reload at a specific point in the course. Now , you CAN do the stage as you like. If you vary from the requirements from the course design , as I have done in the pass - accept the procedurals and continue on with the rest of the match. The key to "doing idpa" is shooting exactly what the course scenario calls for. It doesn't have to make sense.
  2. I've read them both - good light [fictional]entertainment. Got mine from amazon.com Written by a shooter for shooters, I think amazon might have a review.
  3. Stage designers can include the following in the course design: " Score best 2 [or x number] hits per target " . That gives the competitor more options as to how many rounds to engage per target . Also gets away from the double tap mantra .
  4. How about a sub caliber class for the ar 9's?? Score them in a separate division?
  5. Quote: from Erik Warren on 4:54 pm on Mar. 11, 2002 1]How do you take a make-up shot without getting dinged with a procedural or FTDR penalty for "dumping rounds?" 2]Aren't the courses, with Limited Vickers excepted, supposed to allow you take as many shots as you need to hit the targets? 3] I generally call my shots and I will make up the D hits (er, -3 hits) and misses when I can. If that happens to put me at slide-lock, am I to be penalized for my attempting at a better score? No?4] Then what's to prevent me from taking make-up shots everywhere before I want to do a slide-lock reload? What's the line between dumped shots and make-up shots, they must hit the zero ring? They must hit the target? Anything other than overtly cranking rounds into the berm? 1.Aim gun, press trigger. 2.Yes. 3.No- but keep in mind that extra make-up shots WILL add time to your overall. Will taking the extra time /shot make up for -3 down?? I think after a point , make-up shots can work against you rather than for you , ie, swinging targets. 4. There isn't a defined standard as far as I can tell. Unless the stage description specifies WHAT to shoot from WHERE and how many-but that would make it a limited vickers... The thing about IDPA is doing exactly what the course scenario describes faster and more accurately than the other guy.

  8. Go to a match and see if the guys will let you shoot theirs. Most shooters are happy to help someone out by letting them test fire personal guns.

  11. thats what I thought...... MP btw - MB , has is that video project shaping up? (Edited by Mark Perez at 1:01 pm on Jan. 31, 2002)
  12. John , . what do you mean "Grandbagging is a bigger problem in the IDPA" ? In what way ? MP A 45852
  13. slik40 - magazine ,firing pin and recoil springs seem to be the most worn items I end up changing.Depending on how many rounds I'm shooting will determine how often they get changed. Since it is the beginning of the year -I've installed new springs in the mags,FPin and recoil - I predict changing the fpin-cups/springs and recoil springs quarterly. The mags should last all year as they only get loaded for practice and matches. I'm currently averaging about a thousand rounds a month between practicing and comps. Some of the more serious glockrs that I know were doing 2-3 k /month and changing high wear stuff monthly. If you aren't comfortable with doing a full blown dismantling of the gun then perhaps a trip to the armorer once a year is a good idea. btw - don't forget the trigger spring. hope that helps, MP (Edited by Mark Perez at 8:43 am on Jan. 29, 2002)
  14. Are they modifying original parts or manufacturing new replacements??
  15. Eric , the following is from the IDPA web site -rules section: 5. Vision and physical barriers should be used to force the shooter to shoot from the specified positions rather than the use of fault lines (shooting ports also work well and tend to eliminate SO judgment calls). I would think that as long as the scenario YOU DESIGN falls w/in a "realistic" action , then fault lines shouldn't be a problem.Especially at the local club level. MP so many rules ,so little time...
  16. I had originally ordered the club timer from here but upgraded to the m4 after a little more consideration. If you start a regular training regimen - you can track your progress over time. Standard drills ,like those described elsewhere are good places to start.Log your 'cold' times and keep track of them. (Edited by Mark Perez at 3:35 pm on Jan. 4, 2002)
  17. An IDPA Area coordinator had a response within 24 hours . In a nutshell , he confirmed DT's response. String 1. Feet must remain in the 'box'. String 2. A. May use both sides of cover prior to the mandatory reload [shooters option]. Still remaining inside the box. B. Gun must be fully loaded PRIOR to moving forward to the barrel , the magazine can be secured "on the run". Next time on the range - I'm going to compare hits/times using single and both sides for the stage 3/string2 stage.Just to satisfy my own curiosity... Thanks for the help . MP
  18. Nik ,thanks for taking the time to respond. If I do hear from them ,I'll post the results or forward same to anyone that wants it. MP (Edited by Mark Perez at 1:55 pm on Jan. 2, 2002)
  19. Happy New Year to all, We ran a classifier this past weekend and some questions[arguments] came up regarding the use of and shooting around the barricade on stage 3. IDPA rules stipulate that a shooters feet must be behind vertical cover when provided . Does that mean that the feet must stay planted behind the barricade or does the shooter have the option to exit and 'pie around' the cover to engage the far side targets? Thus exposing a leg outside the barricade . [Prior to and after the mandatory reload]. On string 2 : Rules say the gun is considered loaded when the magazine hits home - or words to that effect . Can the shooter retain the original magazine "on the run" to the forward position or must they secure the mag PRIOR to advancing? May the shooter use BOTH sides of the barricade ,prior to the mandatory reload?? I can't find anything related to these 2 issues on the IDPA website and have my fingers crossed that info@idpa.com will respond to my email. How are you guys and gals out there doing it? Thanks in advance , MP Phx Az
