Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Kellyn and crew, I am not anywhere close to the league you guys are competing in, but I am an experienced shooter in several disciplines and I cannot help but wonder why the Leupold CQT has been omitted from you discussion. I find it to be adaptable to many situations and it only needs a battery if you want to shoot in the dark. The 1X3 and circle-dot reticle seem to be about perfect for 3-gun. I can easily shoot sub MOA at 100 yds with mine. A little spendy, but A fine scope. Just 2 pennies from a little guy. RD
  2. I shoot the Westcoast 180's and 155's in my 610. I use VV320 for the 155 and VV340 for the 180. The WC bullets are a little finickey about what powder they like. I have a personal preference for the feel of lighter bullets in almost all guns. I am no master but experienced none the less. I dislike the slow-motion feel of the really heavy bullets and they have more muzzle flip. I like the feel of the recoil better. Making major in .40 is really easy and after all you are shooting a 48 oz gun. Recoil? Again I am no expert, but even I can get pretty fast reloads with the RNFP bullets, they literally just fall in the cylinder. My $.02 RD
  3. Kellyn & Benny, Thanks for all the great info, as luck would have it I probably won't get a slot to the match as it is already oversold. I will be using your advice as the next opportunity presents itself. A-1 3Gun etc. See you at SMM3G next year! RD
  4. I may be able to make it to the MM3G after all. I have never been to a "big" 3-gun match before and I want to avoid being surprised by some rule I haven't heard of. I have read everything I can find here but still have some questions. Is there any equipment I might bring that would be dis-allowed? I will be shooting Open. My pistol is a usual open-class Infinity .38 Super, C-more, and Safariland holster and belt. My Rifle is an AR with a scope, comp, bi-pod, and Redi-mag. Benelli Practical Model shotgun with a holosight and speedloaders. Also, the rules I read state that each target must have a minimum of 1 A hit. Do most shooters only shoot once at the targets? Is there anywhere on the web I might find some stages that might give me an idea what to expect from this match? How many mags/speedloaders will I need to carry on me? Thanks in advance. RD
  5. When you say it didn't help, what function are you referring to that was not improved? Poor cycling? Just curios. RD
  6. The Fiocchi reduced recoil shoot well for me, 3" group at about 75 yards using a dot. They measure 2.320" and come in 10 packs. I picked them up for $105.00 for 250 rd case locally, but they came in on a 500 case order by truck. Not sure of the price on smaller quantities. (Edited by reddot at 6:42 pm on Feb. 7, 2003)
  7. Lucas, I have the Briley extended model for mine and I really like it see link below. RD http://www.briley.com
  8. RK&Kurt, Thanks again for the help, I am running a stock Practical model with the only changes being a 10 rd tube to replace the factory 8 rounder and a Holosight. I guess we just are not going to shoot RR slugs, everything else 11/8 and up runs flawlessly. How in the heck does the Benelli 20 Ga work?
  9. KurtM, Thanks for the info, I tried it and the gun won't lock back about half time with RR slugs. It is 100% with regular slugs and shot loads if they are 11/8oz. and up. Do I need to: 1) cut coils from factory spring, 2)get a Sure-cycle,and possibly cut coils from it or 3)will the Wolff reduced spring help? Sure-cycle seems a bit pricey, but a drop in the bucket comparatively. Thanks again for your wisdom RD (Edited by reddot at 1:25 pm on Feb. 2, 2003) (Edited by reddot at 1:25 pm on Feb. 2, 2003)
  10. KurtM, I also have one of those springs, I ordered it because the gun short-strokes with lighter loads. Is there a better answer? Thanks, RD
  11. ScottG Have two M1's Mercury in both Haven't shot the practical much yet, but my field that I use for clays is working fine. Mercury definitely takes a little hit out, it isn't a recoil eliminator by any stretch of the imagination, but it helps some. RD
  12. FWIW I had a similar problem with my SV open gun light hits and Win. primers. I couldn't afford to scrap 25000 primers and buy Feds, so I tried new mainspring etc. The XL pin was the only thing to make it work 100%. Also, the XL pin willcause pistol primers to rupture in my Super. RD
  13. SB79, I shot a bunch of stuff with an old .45 with a single port Clark comp. I always liked to pick the slowest stuff that would fill the case 80% or better and still burn clean. The last combination I used was 8.8 gr N340 with a 155 swc. That was for the "old major" maybe 7.5 to 8.0 would make new major. I used a12 or 13 lb spring with that. If you can't get it to cycle, you might try a lighter recoil spring. Let me know if you have any questions that I might help with. RD
  14. Also, my trigger pull lightened about .5 # after about 1000 rounds I'm running about 8#. 100% with Winchester because that what I have. RD
  15. RtB, Brownell's has x-tra long firing pins from Cyl & Slide if your gun has the frame mounted variety. My 610 has that setup I am not sure what the 625 has. Jerry's stuff is supposed to work at 7.5 #, maybe you will want to get in touch with him? Let us know what you find. RD
