  1. Spec miata is a popular class for racing too. Doesnt make a miata any less dorky to drive!
  2. Homer. Apparently that is the "logo" for Black Creek Steel.
  3. FNH Presents the 2012 Virginia Maryland Section Championship Match book available HERE!!!!!!
  4. As a metal fabricator, whenever something I built fails, I'm forced to examine not only the materials, but also the construction methods. If you tell me that I've built FIVE of something over a couple of years and they have all failed the same, I'm not blaming the material. I'm looking in the mirror. As for why the others haven't failed, you've hit one key point... they're different. Conceivably he's made a change that has created this stress riser. Don't think that luck doesn't play a huge part into it too...
  5. That doesn't add up for me. It doesn't make sense that STI would be making slides for all that time over multiple years and have five of them fail that one guy cut up. It sounds like they may have had a problem with something that was exacerbated by whatever pattern the gunsmith cut. I certainly don't doubt that it's possible that they had a metallurgy issue. However there are thousands of STI open guns out there that haven't hadn't crack slides.
  6. Not to be argumentative but it sounds like an gunsmith that was overly aggressive with the mill has created this problem. It sounds like he created a stress riser that is failing. Blaming STI for it is sort of similar to blaming Chevrolet for a blown up motor if you put nitrous on it. It seems like the the gunsmith has made a mistake not STI.
  7. Am I correct in reading that the slides that have failed are all cut up by the same builder over various years?
  8. Let's see a formula car go 150 in the dirt.
  9. I was in their old shop about 10 years ago. This is insane... http://www.race-deze...ble-Motorsports
  10. I don't believe in the class system. It rewards mediocrity and I HATE that. As far as I'm concerned, its no different than giving my 5 yearo old a trophy for showing up for soccer at the YMCA. There's only one winner.. he's the guy that did it all better than the rest of us. 2nd place is first loser....
  11. Its true. Its true for the TVs they sell that offer similar pictures with fewer HDMI ports, certainly on the tires you can buy (same tire, different load), and definitely with guns. I have a wal-mart Beretta AL390. American made gun, totally reliable, love it. But its not the same 390 as you could buy from a gun store.
  12. Where in hell is Cackalacky?? I ask myself the same question daily.
  13. All I can tell you is I have 126s, 140s, STI mags, SV mags, SPS mags... all work. All 3 grips. An out of shape tube is one thing... obviously if it ain't square, it ain't square. But tuning a mag to run is indicative of other problems. I've been handed random mags and ammo for years and they always run. All my STI based guns were built by the same guy and they always... always run.
  14. All the same to me... 2012 FNH VA MD Sethie Sectional. Flows nicely.
  15. Since I'm doing the book, I guess I can name it the 2012 VA/ MD Sethie Sectional and no one will mind...
  16. Ah the tuning of the mag... AFAIK its a myth.. or an indication that your pistol isn't built right. I have a zillion mags, all makes models and sizes. They all run. No tuning required.
  17. You want a picture of my eyes? Creepy.
  18. I make up for any appreciable skill with enviable equipment.
  19. I'm a holster whore. I just love playing with them and have tried a bunch. First was the CRspeed. I can't say anything nice about it. Lock is insubstantial, quality is so so. Then I got a 2nd gen limcat. This was by FAR the best holster I had. Solid lock, great draw, gun didn't rock. The downside was that the tension wasn't adjustable, so you had to be payng attenion or locked when you sit. Then I took a class and the instructor insisted on CR. That last about 8 weeks. When I went open, I tried thg Ghost briefly and thought it was grossly overrated. The gun rocked too much and the draw was sloppy. So I then went kydex. DOH for the 2 years I was MD at Fredericksburg and never really minded it, except drawing a 6" out of kydex was a little bit of a disadvantage.... and it didn't look cool. Finally I went ot eh DAA. Much ado about nothing in my opinion. With 3 bone stock STI grips, it didn't fit ANY of them properly out of the box. First the holster wouldn't allow the gun to go in deep enough to lock, then it wouldn't release. The insert that goes into the trigger was totally off and required that I reshape it substantially. Totally unacceptable in a $200 holster. Then I fought with it to keep it tight. Now I have it where it works, its fine, but I have way too much money in a science project. I have tried the Safariland 013 and Gugas and dindn't care for either, but the 014 looks promising. I'm not in the market, but I'd swap for it if given the chance.
  20. What time can we expect you tomorow?
  21. When I was MD at Fredericksburg, round cound was set arbitrarily and the stages were made to fit for this reason exactly. Made the job of recording accurate scores markedly easier.
