  1. I shoot both. Much more USPSA than AP though. There are a lot more opportunities where I live to do so. I like USPSA for the variety of challenges, the freestyle aspect, the much greater competition (again in my area), and the different physical requirements. I like AP for the same reasons I like GSSF. It's consistent and is an excellent performance measure. I can shoot the same match month after month and compare my performance to decide if I'm improving, doing something stupid or stagnating. AP is also a bit different becuase there is a perfect score, 1920-192x. Anything less and there is something you can improve on. With USPSA there is no real 100%. It's whoever shot the stage best that day. Doesn't mean it couldn't be shot better by someone else, or even the same person the next day. AP will normally consist of no more than 4 stages, 192 rounds. It's very fixed and rigid and there really isn't a lot of differences in the way it's shot. It's just your skill at completing the specific course. I use AP to boost my USPSA scores. The discipline improves my accuracy in USPSA. If I had the time I'd shoot both. If I had to pick one it would be USPSA.
  2. Not sure, there may be a new President next year. My best guess is that the pistol Nationals will be back in October and the MG in September, like last year. It was moved up for the World Shoot this year. 9 days in 100 degree heat was a bit much to ask the NROI crew to go through again next year.
  3. To be fair, the original post was on the 15th and was an idle question - not one that I thought (at the time) was worth calling the office for. The conversation that followed was just guys at the bar with a common interest. No torches and pitchforks, just a common concern. Given the number of SCs, ADs, staff, etc who post here regularly, it seemed like an appropriate place to ask a question or express a concern. BB No worries, it was a fair question. And a decent place to ask. If I hadn't been running around Vegas for the last week and a half I'd have probably called earlier to get you an answer. Just wanted the folks who were really concerned to know how to get an answer on their own if they cared to enough to find out.
  4. Not saying it was necessary. Val even said it would have been good to have posted the schedule on the website. But think about the amount of time you guys have put in reading this thread and posting. If someone had made a call or sent an email rather than complaining on an internet forum with no affiliation with USPSA it would have been a non issue. You're always welcome to complain and spend your time that way. But if you wanted an answer it was easily available.
  5. From the Bylaws. 6.7 Runoff Election Ballot Procedure: The run-off election shall be conducted under the terms, conditions, and procedures described in 6.5 for the initial election, except that the deadlines shall be: i.) ballots shall be mailed to all current members on the original mailing list by November 1st, by first class mail, ii.) ballots received on or before December 1st are eligible to be counted, iii.) results shall be reported to the President and Board of Directors by December 15th of each election year. As far as additional candidate comments, I'm not sure if there will be any additional in Front Sight. Probably depends on the print schedule and whether each candidate chooses to pay for an ad. I don't believe there is a provision for any additional information going out. From your list it looked like the candidates already answered most of them at one point or another. You can always email them and ask their opinions. Mike is president@uspsa.org and Phil is area4@uspsa.org They are both probably already in Greece or on their way so it might be a little while before you get a response. There is a bit of time before the ballots go out November 1 though.
  6. So I just called Val. She verified all the scores this morning. Roger just got back in the office from Nationals. He now has the scores and the update will likely occur either this afternoon or tomorrow, per Val. Val, and for that matter all the staff at HQ, have always been very open and available any time I've called. Including before I was an AD. Rather than lighting the torches and sharpening the pitchforks, a call might have been easier?
  7. I doubt the USPSA Nationals will be the same weekend it is this year. It was moved to account for the IPSC world shoot this year. Likely it will be the end of September. Just a guess though. I think the date Andy has will work out fine.
  8. After the last stage somebody made a comment to Robbie about Dave's run on the stage. His response was he didn't care how Dave did, he was trying to beat Ben. Got the strong impression Robbie didn't care if he came in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, whatever. He was going for 1st. It was interesting to watch them on the last day. They really poured it on. There were plenty of points in the air they could have come back. Dave pulled out all the stops and burned down the next to last stage. If he had his hits it would have been enough for the win. But he didn't. Ben was the opposite. First stage of the last day he was not happy with a run. I told him he gained on Rob and Dave because of problems they both had. He didn't care how they were doing, it just wasn't up to his standards. Nice to be in the drivers seat.
  9. Yep, I just did the top 16 because of my placement. Had nothing to do with the previous threads about guns of the top 16. Just for purely selfish reasons. I was acutally thinking about doing a Guns of the Top 17 for the Limited 10 match. That number just seemed right. This thread would have read the same if I'd finished 8th or 24th. Overall placement awards are given out to the top 16. After that it's class or category awards.
  10. 8 of 16 DA/SA 1 Beretta 1 Springfield 1 Sig 3 Smith & Wesson M&P 9 (2 Pro, 1 Std) 4 Glock 34 6 CZ SP-01 That's a bit more diverse than usual. Some of this may have been a temporary bubble with the World Shoot looming and IPSC's bias towards DA/SA guns over striker fired guns.
  11. Both were scheduled at almost the same time. USPSA had to stick ours when we did due to the approaching World Shoot (the IPSC one, not the IDPA one). We tried to put it a week earlier but couldn't due to a range conflict. There are normally a couple weeks of contract signing that go into scheduling of a match of this size. We were both doing it at the same time and announced at almost the same time. No evil scheme. In fact USPSA offered shooters the opportunity to shoot through the match and still get to the IDPA match. Something I've never seen allowances at Nationals for. Shoot throughs yes, to go shoot another match, no.
  12. 1. Ben Stoeger Beretta 92 Elite 2 2. Rob Leatham Springfield XDM 5.25 3. Dave Sevigny Glock 34 4. Matt Mink CZ SP-01 5. Phil Strader CZ SP-01 6. Rodney May Sig X5 7. Kale Garretson CZ SP-01 8. Brad Engmann S&W M&P Pro 9 9. Angus Hobdell CZ SP-01 10. Lee Demaculangan Glock 34 11. Sonny Morton S&W M&P Pro 9 12. Chad Reilly CZ SP-01 13. Michael Hollar Glock 34 14. Cody McKenna CZ SP-01 15. 13. Maybe instead of dredging up a 2009 thread and adding 2011 info to it we should start a 2011 thread. Way to go Angus!
  14. You're fine in USPSA. It's a holdover from a previous rulebook. That rule no longer exists
  15. It does. It's a pain to reach in there for an empty chamber start. I tried getting Robbie to make an upward angled handle that would clear. Didn't get much in the way of a response. It's still worth it, even with the reach.
  16. Are you talking about this year? It started 30 minutes late. Right about 8:30 PM. A record I think. The prize table was also a lot more smooth with everyone staying in the main room with the sound system until called. That said, there was a conflict in some of the information posted. Some said it started at 7, some at 8. They announced it for my squad at least that it was going at 8.
  17. Don't worry if you don't know who your AD is. He knows who you are..and is watching.
  18. USPSA is based on fitting in a mag gauge. If it fits in the gauge you're good. IPSC is based on the gun with magazine inserted fitting in a box of a specific size. Obviously if you're magazine could telescope to the length required but them expand to fit twice the amount of ammo that would be a bit of an advantage. Add on basepads are legal in USPSA and IPSC providing them meet the applicable restrictions above. What sport do you want to compete in, IPSC or USPSA. Maybe an easier question, where are you. If you're in the US you'll likely be shooting USPSA matches, which don't use the IPSC rule book. Go to USPSA.org for the rules for that. If you're outside the US, IPSC.org is the right spot.
  19. Not sure if Matt wants me to mention it but he made a Delrin addition to my Prone pad to get it a bit higher off the ground. I'm sure it would be equally easy to add one to a 2011 style mag well. I just epoxied mine on with Marine Tex. Worked great. Matt is at www.m2icustomtactical.com Not sure if he'll do another one. I got the impression it was not easy. I was kind of hoping someone would make one that would work with the Dawson Precision Ice Magwell. Remove Ice insert and install Bianchi Insert. I have no idea the time it would take for that though.
  20. No specific details on any of the classes or side matches yet. We're going to start working on that now.
  21. I'm pleased to announce that the 2012 Area 1 Pistol Championship will be held in St. George, Utah on April 26-29, 2012. The web site is 2012 USPSA Area 1 Championships The match website is up and running and we are accepting registrations. Area 1 residents will be accepted and guaranteed entry into the match until December 15, 2011. After that the match opens to all comers. We anticipate that this match will fill and be the largest Area 1 ever held. We are running the match as a trophy only event. No prize table. There may be some prizes donated by sponsors that will be given away via random draw during the match and with various raffles. There will be a junior class on Friday April 27 as well as a free class for Veterans of the Armed Services. Note, we also have a number of free match entries for Juniors registered for the class and veterans. You can see the website for more details. There will also be several side matches going on for your down time. The range in St. George is huge. Much bigger than we need for just an Area match. We're going to do our best to make use of it. We'll have at 14 stages plus Chrono, at least three side matches, at least two classes, raffles, giveaways and some great scenery. St. George is in a beautiful area of Southern Utah, about 90 minutes NE of Las Vegas. It's about 40 minutes from Zion National Park and a lot of other recreational activities. If your interested www.atozion.com is a great website to start planning your vacation. We will be doing online squadding for the match and will open that up sometime in December, before the 15th. Our MD for this match is Ken Nelson. For those of you that don't know him he's an awesome computer guy and the website and registration reflects this. You'll register through an online form. Once you submit you'll get an email back letting you know it's been received and information on how to pay for your entry. I've tried it a few times and it's pretty slick. Take a look at the website, let me know if you have any questions and sign up early if you don't want to miss out!
  22. The MDs email addess is evanskuo@yahoo.com. He should be able to point you in the right direction.
  23. Guys, give him a few days to sort things out. It's his match, and Jesse, just like you wanted to try something different with your single Division matches, Larry is trying something with the magazines. Cut him some slack. I'm sure it's all going to work out before the first shot fired.
  24. Fair enough. I'm not even sure if I've got enough of those antique metal mags. Just hate to see a bunch of people getting tossed into open because they don't hang out on the forums at all hours. Like me.
