  1. I talked to Doug Smith at Magpul. He said that they are primarily to keep the dust out and keep the feed lips in place. I asked about using them for duty in the gun and in a Redi mag (Same setup I use). He said that there shouldn't be any problems. Same info that Chriss has about the storage. He said that they have kept one loaded for over a year and the feed lips haven't moved. Sounds like there shouldn't be any problems. I'll be switching over at our rifle update this week.
  2. The pro series was in the cabinet by the corner of the S&W booth. The ones on the racks were the Production models. Although from the bottom of you picture it looks like that one might be the 45. The only outward difference between the Pro series and the Production model is the front and rear sights.
  3. That's what Tony Meile quoted me from their Performance Center. I'm sure it would be very easy to detune the trigger a half a pound. I would also imagine that right now their trying to cater more to the USPSA crowd than the IPSC crowd.
  4. Nope, not in the country and no word when we'll get it.
  5. So far not a huge amount of new stuff for the USPSA folks. EAA looked pretty similar to last year, CZ had a couple of different models shown, including the Shadow, and a couple different varieties of the Tactical Sport. STI had the Steel Master as well as a couple other 1911's. STI also had a .22lr conversion kit for the 2011 and 1911 series. Tactical Solutions also had a very nice looking conversion as well for the 1911 and 2011 guns. Lots of companies putting out .22 lr conversion kits and many more coming for different models like the XD and the M&P. STI had a the grip frame for the GP6 but the rest of the gun couldn't be imported just yet. Got a look at the S&W long slide 9mm. They make two different models, one the Pro Series and the other a production gun. Get the Pro Series. It comes with flat black Novak rear sight, a fiber front and a 4.5 lb trigger job. The production model has the white dot sights and the standard trigger. Price difference was only supposed to be about $40.00.
  6. The cover is designed to keep the pressure off the lips. This was a big problem with polymer mags that were kept loaded previously. I haven't tried it because it isn't recommended. I'll ask the Magpul guys at the SHOT Show when I see them though.
  7. We had a similar shooting. S-B-C where the bad guy kept putting gun to head, put it on car, put gun to head, put it on car etc. He even got a gas can out of the trunk, poured it on the roof and then sat inside smoking. The SWAT commander asked the sniper if he could shoot the gun when it was on the roof. Sniper refused to. Guy eventually got tired of screwing around, picked up gun and started walking towards southern containment pointing it at them. Sniper put a .308 through his ear. The problem with shooting the gun is twofold, one there is a bullet from the snipers weapon that will ricochet and go on unknown path. The second and bigger problem is the bullet from the suspects gun. Snipercraft did a study where they shot a number of firearms to see what would happen. The majority of the time the gun would discharge and the bullet would go ...somewhere. The determination is that deliberately shooting the gun is a reckless act that really can't be justified.
  8. Will hardchrome discolor with bluing though?
  9. I have the digital set as well. They work great for me. One suggestion would be to get the molds done and wear them for awhile to make sure they are comfortable. I had a couple of high spots in mine that caused pain. I had Jack take a look at them at a match, he hit it with a dremel and they have been great ever since. Wouldn't have had that issue if I made sure the molds were done right in the first place. They do feel a bit like plugs to me which I've never used so it took a bit of getting used to. Other than that they work great. The only thing I wanted more protection with was the 7" comped AR I shot on Friday. But that rattled my teeth too.
  10. That sounds like an awesome Standard setup. I still can't believe that thing is legal for Production. I want one.
  11. So not only does the frame not work with aftermarket barells but wont work with the most common .40 caliber round. And if the part breaks it's $125.00 to replace it. Sounds like a great product.
  12. STI has a picture of the new STI GP6 in their ad in the new American Handgunner. Good looking gun, of course I think the Glock is a good looking gun.
  13. We've had to shut down for wind before, blowing everything over on the range. Other than that I've shot in the snow, rain (a lot), cold, and even occasionally the sun.
  14. We've had two reasonably recent incidents of this. The first two officer shot a "star soccer player who was going to be attending "X" college." Of course the darling child was already out of High School (It was November) was not going to college, was drunk, and was brandishing a knife yelling shoot me. He also had been shot 4 times with Bean Bags with no effect. After the officers shot him, some idiot actually wrote the newspaper saying that the Crocodile Hunter could handle all sorts of animals without shooting them, why can't police. He actually suggested that Poilce be required to carry a rope and a net with them. (Of course this was shortly before the Crocodile Hunter was killed by a big fish). Just a week a so a friend of mine was stabbed three times but a suicidal guy. He tried to avoid shooting him like ever other dipwad suggested and was nearly killed for his trouble.
  15. It would have to be approved by USPSA and IPSC. Not sure if it has been submitted yet.
  16. So you know, technically a trigger job is not allowed under IPSC rules at all. The way it's worded, minor detailing to internal parts, leaves the door a little open. If you say that you had a burr on your sear that you removed, legal. If you say that you slicked up the trigger, even though it's still 5.5 lbs, welcome to open. There seems to be more semantics in IPSC Production than USPSA Production.
  17. I've had trouble with both UPS and FedEx. I won't use DHL for anything. I called once asking about shipping a firearm. I got a real snide, "you mean like a gun? We don't do that." With FedEx and UPS it's a crap shoot what will be left at the door and what won't be. I've had over a dozen Glocks left on the front door step and just last week the UPS man was nice enough to leave my new Sabre Defence XR-16 Machine gun on the porch in the box. The drivers that I love are the ones that don't even knock. I've been sitting in the office and watch them pull up, come up to the door, drop the package and leave. No knock, no doorbell.
  18. I hope mine never gets locked because I didn't even get a key with the gun when I bought it. Just out of curiousity, is the S&W lock anything like the Remington lock? Remington designed their lock so that you could activate it without the key. I had a friend that started a stage with his shotgun and realized that TSA had thoughtfully locked his shotgun for him when they checked it. Ooops.
  19. Renee Cortez at Speedshooters International might have some.
  20. Yep, absolutely worth it. If you have to have the work done later there are only a couple guys around that are really good with the CZ platform. I'm not aware of any (could be some though) in Maryland. If you have to ship the pistol out to have the work done on it you're going to add around $100.00 for round trip shipping. That alone makes it worth it for me. Also, if there is anything else you want done, or something that you don't want done, you can order it that way.
  21. I took a class from Eric Graufel. He said that there is no excuse to not use a racker on an open gun. He was very adamant that it was an important piece of equipment. I doubt it would work in IPSC Standard because of the box rule, but in USPSA Limited it should be good to go. Seems like it would speed up unloaded gun starts, table draws and probably not have too much of a negative effect on handling.
  22. Anybody know which airport to fly into? Also, I noticed the Junior entry fee, nice touch. It would be nice if we did that in the US for our big matches.
  23. They actually look slower to me to use. With a notch and post if the front sight is somewhere in the middle it's good for close up targets and of course distance is lining them up a bit more. With these sights, there is no middle, the front sight is either there or not. Also for precise shots it looks like you have to line up five things, three sides on the bottom and make the sides of the pyramids flat. They could be just the thing for shooting IPSC, but I think I'll pass.
  24. Does anyone have the dates for the 2008 Steel Challenge yet?
  25. The cocobolo factory grips are pretty thin. I wouldn't go any thinner without going to a metal grip. Any thinner wood could break pretty easily.
