  1. Very true, I own two mags that can take 20 rounds, one is always my LAMR mag, the other is in the pouch for my first reload. The rest of the pouches have my 18 round mags just in case I need them. I use different colors (silver and blue) for the 20 rounders, the 18 rounders all have black pads, but they are numbered.
  2. Yes, you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BX1kvJVrjc
  3. Specially if your Maradona! (World Cup 86 reference) I normally put the tips of my fingers and the heals of the palms in contact, never a straight hand. So far it has never been a problem.
  4. I am also interested in the accuracy comparison vs the factory barrel. Also, did it require fitting? Or was it truly "drop in"?
  5. You say this was a new shooter, perhaps he wanted a weak side holster in case a stage required weak-hand only shooting. It would be easier to draw and shoot from a weak-hand holster, no transition needed. Yes, I understand this is not allowed. Just trying to get into the new shooters thought process here.
  6. My first 1911 was a Kimber, base price $1,200 then about $550 more at the gunsmith. Then I got a Springfield Armory, base price $900 plus about $950 at the gunsmith. Finally I got my Les Baer, $1,900. It would have been cheaper to get the Les Baer first and be done with it.
  7. This is good advice, this way you can buy a gun that is already setup for competition. From looking at the pictures it has a fiber optic front sight and a magwell. Front-strap checkering too, since it is a Premier II model. My Les Baer has always been great.
  8. Read this thread (on a different forum) that includes tips for the IDPA classifier: Tips for shooting the IDPA classifier
  9. Lots of good reasons to shot a 9mm 1911. I shoot SS Minor, years ago some IDPA ESP. Since I do not handload it is a great way to keep ammo costs down as opposed to .45 acp. You mention you already have a .45, so you will be able to use your existing holster and magazine pouches.
  10. 10-8 claims they are fine: http://www.10-8performance.com/products/S%26W-M%26P-Base-Pad.html "Weight is .5 ounces (factory is .2 ounces). Pads are legal in all divisions of IDPA and USPSA."
  11. I use the Geissele SD3Gun. It is almost like getting a crisp 1911 trigger for your AR. I've also used the Geissele SSA it is a more traditional 2-stage trigger, both feel a lot better than my old GI triggers.
  12. I shoot a Gold Match also, like many I added a magwell S&A in my case, but now there seem to be many more options. I would shoot 500 rds first, just to make sure you don't have any hiccups.
  13. I thought you could have a stippled back-strap in SSP? Would'nt that be similar to changing grips? I am pretty sure stippling anywhere else makes it ESP, since that stippling (in the front strap for example) would be a permanent modification.
  14. Does anyone know the dimensions of the steel flashers at the 200 yd stage? 6 x 8 inches maybe? I need to practice my long range shots A LOT. Thanks to the organizers and staff.
  15. A big thank you to the organizers, volunteers and sponsors. Great match. Will you be providing a link to scores? I did poorly but I'm still interested. Thanks again.
  16. They show it on Mondays at 7:30 AM EST and Thursdays at 3 PM EST. This Thursday July 29 would be the re-run of the 1st episode.
