  1. I have been poking around, and I don't think I have a final answer for this question: What is the maximum number of rounds I can get in a CZ75 magazine for .40 S&W, using whatever extensions, aftermarket springs, and extended baseplates etc. I really love my CZ75 SA in 9, and would get another in .40 if I though it could be competitive in limited major. I suspect that it won't be a good answer.
  2. I talked to Henning about that sight, and he says it will not fit the Match pistols that come with the LPA rear.
  3. Do you have a front fiber sight? It is taller than the stock front.
  4. I really want to replace the cheesy LPA adjustable rear sight on my Witness match. After putting Henning's front fiber sight on, the stock LPA needed to be adjusted almost to the top of its travel and looked precariously balanced. Yesterday I noticed that the elevation screw had gone wherever it is that vanished gun hardware goes (is it with all the missing left socks?). So I had to find the right size metric screw, cut it down, and Loctite the c*** out of it for a match today. Pray for me. Has anyone had any luck modifying a high-profile sight intended for some other gun, like say a 1911, to fit the dovetail of a Match and work well with a Henning fiber front?
  5. That seems awfully low. I am loading 124g TMJ Montana Golds over 4.1g of Titegroup, Magtech SP Magnum primers, mixed brass, and getting 1040-1060 f.p.s. through my CZs. No clue why yours would be so low....
  6. I have a CZ-85 Combat that I like to shoot in production. My only problem with it is that I would like it much better if the mag release button were on the right side of the frame instead of the left, and it is not reversible like it is on some of the newer CZs. My mag changes are just way smoother with the button there (plus it gets my finger away from the trigger!) Cz Custom would be able to modify the gun for a reversible mag release by cutting out a small semicircle from the frame on the left side and putting in a reversible release. I cannot definitely tell from the rule book whether this would be a prohibited modification for production (I already know it takes the gun out of SSP in IDPA). Anybody got an opinion, or better yet, a definitive answer?
  7. The Patriot Defensive Pistol Association is again hosting the West Texas IDPA Regional in Lubbock, Texas. The 2010 match will be held at Patriot Indoor Family Shooting center in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday, February 20th.This is the 8th annual sanctioned West Texas IDPA Regional to be held in Lubbock. We hope to see you all here on the 20th of February. Further information will be posted at www.patriotfirearms.com.
  8. Everybody seems to love their CZ SP-01s, but another CZ that is great for Production is the CZ-85 Combat. It comes stock without a firing pin safety. Add a hard sear and competition hammer, switch to a 15# hammer spring, and a little polishing and you are good to go with a really sweet trigger and short reset. It is also lighter than the SP-01, so there are no problems with the IDPA SSP weight limit.
  9. It is 4.5 g of Titegroup under a Rainier 200 g plated bullet. It chronos at ~ 700 fps. The standard deviation is significant ( ~+/- 15 fps) but I have not noticed any accuracy problem.
  10. \At least there were no springs launched into space!?
  11. Wolff has reduced power recoil springs for the XD-45 Tactical. I run reliably at 140 pf (200 g bullets at 700 fps) with the lightest weight spring they offer (14 lbs ifn I remember correctly). Very soft shooting....
  12. I hope this helps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9c8gDDenDQ http://www.xd-hs2000.com/disassembly/disassembly.html Detailed directions with photos. Go in reverse order to reassemble....
  13. My XD 45 will not feed truncated cone rounds unless they are loaded long, basically as long as possible while still chambering, minus about 0.010". And sometimes even then it nosedives on one or so out of 100. I use round nose bullets for matches, but those are hard to find for .40, right?
  14. I can say a couple things about Friday... 1) The shooting was fun 2) the mud was horrendous, and I think I came close to falling either splayed forward or flat on my back 4 or 5 times 3) I won't be coming in anywhere near the top of my class. Probably dead last. That's what slogging though sucky mud at 1/4 speed and having 3 FTEs will do to you.. 4) I shot all stages, didn't DQ. I got plenty of warnings, but that is just good ROing. The temptation to leave after lunch and go get drunk was strong, but I didn't think I could get my car out of where I parked it in the slide lot. 5) A Nissan Maxima can be parked in a mud pond AND driven back out. It's all in momentum management. I don't know if I could do this whole thing again, though.
  15. Friday's weather looks worse every time I look... Good thing that they don't really have any idea.....
  16. I am shooting on Friday, so I hope that is some accurate weather forecasting there. There is a world of difference between being damp and 75 degrees and being damp and 53 degrees. At least sleet looks unlikely!!!! Now weather.com says 69 high, 53 low, with "few" showers for Friday. I can deal with that after the last Double Tap. Of course by Thursday the forecast will be entirely different

  18. It is good to have a load that makes major too, I will try that. No indications of high pressure with that load?
  19. I have a 85 Combat that has been worked over with Angus' fire control parts and it has a wonderful DA and SA trigger. You are right about the safety lever, though, it sucks and needs something more like the CZ75SA or SP-01 has. Other than that I would claim it is the perfect DA/SA 9mm....
  20. 50 for IDPA. 52 for USPSA. It is useful to start old, it gives you many excuses (explanations?) for bad performances....
  21. I would tend to say that if I had to be careful about my grip to get the gun to cycle, I would use those rounds for practice and bump the powder charge up some for match ammo.
  22. I am 99% sure that if it is a Match, it is part of the Elite series. Now you can go to Henning's site and start buying hundreds of dollars of fire control parts, sights, and magazines. I am envious, I had a lot of fun tricking mine out to a 2# sweet trigger....
  23. I have made up some test rounds ranging between 3.9 and 4.5g, so I guess I will be in the ballpark. Boy, it is fluffy, low density stuff compared to WW231 or TG! I can't try them out yet since our local indoor range had a fire........
  24. I have been loading 200g Rainier or Berry's bullets using Titegroup to a power factor of 140-145 for IDPA ESP and USPSA Production with good success. Well, now that the Area 4 is coming up I can't find Titegroup anywhere, and the only fast burning powder I could find locally was WST. Anybody have any experience with loading powderpuff .45 with this powder? Is it any cleaner than TG at these low power factors?
