  1. I have hands on the larger size and I also have to shift my grip to hit the mag release. It's done on most guns more than we realize it. qstick, be careful about putting your thumbs on the gun. It's OK to touch lightly, but the thumbs should have no/little part in your grip on the gun. Don't steer it either way with your thumbs. FYI.
  2. Putting the mag capacity aside and talking just about reliability, I used them for a while in my Para years ago and they worked great. They were more reliable than the Para mags, nothing but good things from me on them. Kevin
  3. Guys, I understand what you are saying about the Tripp mags being expensive, BUT, for some who travel/attend major matches, this is a minor expense to have the BEST and get as close to 100% reliability as you can. Virgil makes great stuff (hard chromed all my guns and they look awesome, plus 7 days, door to door). When you are $400-$1500 in expenses for a match, that little bit extra to have the best is nothing. Just my opinion. Kevin
  4. Do what works for you, individually. Yes, the flick is wasted motion, BUT, Todd does the flick (a little) and it obviously works for him. Everyone here saying not to do the flick, I doubt any of you can match Todd in time or match wins and he does the flick. He's performed .68 reloads, live fire, on demand, directly in front of me. I don't care it you're scratching your nuts between inserting the new mag, if you're doing .68 reloads, you're in and good to go!
  5. I know the Army's Markmanship Unit Shooting Team does (or used to do this) this when they are loading up. If you watch them on the line after "Load and make ready", they insert a mag, pull the trigger and rack the slide. I know they do so because it disconnects the sear and is the proper "military" way of loading a 1911 (or so I've been told), but I'm a little unsure of pulling the trigger and racking the slide. My luck, I'd do so at the Nationals and the gun would AD and I'd be done.
  6. Wakal, I carry a Walther P99 on duty and have a Walther P99QA model of my own. The guide rod made/sold by ISMI might be metal. I dont' remember if it is or not. I do have one, but it is actually advertised for the Glock. If you look, the guide rod for the Walther looks almost exactly like the guide rod in the Glock. The guide rod made by ISMI has a screw in Allen screw in the end of it so you can change the spring weight when you want. The ISMI guide rod is the only one to have for the Glock/Walther when you have to have a captured guide rod. ISMI also makes flat recoil springs for the Glocks, but again, they will fit Walther's also cause they look exactly alike. Kevin
  7. Bbyrd, Yep, I love mine. I just made a post about it yesterday. I shot it for the first time yesterday and again today. The more I shoot it, the more I like it. I even shot the Speer Lawman 180gr TMJ out of it and the stuff normally kicks like a mule, but it wasn't bad with my XD. My HK, Glock, Beretta and Sig all kick like crazy with this load, but the XD shot it pretty good with not much kick. I also shot my buddies Glock side by side with my XD, and there was NO COMPARISON!!!!!!!!!! The XD was more accurate and much more controllable and comfortable to shoot.
  8. Hey all, I talked with Todd Jarrett at the Shot SHow and asked him about the Recoilmaster. We only spoke about his Open gun, but he stated he does have a Recoilmaster in his Open gun and he loves it, he said it makes a big difference to him. I didn't get to ask if it was a light or heavy one or what spring rates he had, just what I stated above.
  9. Hey Brian, Wasn't there a post you and others spoke about dealing with the single stacks in .40 and what it takes to make them reliable. I know it was quite a while ago, 6 months to a year (or little more than a year). I know it was this forum I read it on. I was doing a search and not having much luck.
  10. Recon, Blade Tech makes pretty good and extremely fast carry holsters that are Ok for IPSC Production and IDPA. Safariland supposedly has a new holster out that is a carry holster and pretty good and fast for carry. It's in Brownell's new section of the catalog.
  11. I use either a Silicone rag or just a normal rag that I have sprayed down (dozens of times) with silicone. I keep it in a sealed plastic bag and if a mag hits the ground, it gets taken apart and wiped inside with the silicone rag. Got this from Beven. Has worked 1000% for me.
  12. I have 2 Aftec's on both my Limited guns and they have been there for several years, no problems whatsoever. They've been perfect.
  13. Wow Erik, that's wild! I use a couple STI tubes and a couple SVI tubes. Arrendondo followers and flat base pads (Limited), ISMI springs and have had no problems at all. I have 2 mags that have been tuned by Beven Grams that hold 20 with his base pad and I have shot them extensively with 20 rounds full and never had a jam yet out of them. He also trims the feed lips and tunes them up.
  14. Hey guys, Just so you know, when I was at the Shot Show this year, Springfield Armory had the World Shoot video playing at their booth the entire time, but none were for sale and they weren't talking if it would be or not. I begged and pleaded (and almost robbed them) them for one to no avail.
  15. Anyone know what the weight is of the Caspian Race Ready Single Stack steel frame?
  16. Thanks Loves2shoot, Basically, you're just moving the lips closer together right? Kevin
  17. OK, thanks Loves2shoot. You use the Wilson 10round .45acp mags and they feed fine in yours "as is"?
  18. Anyone know where the thread is that talks about the .45 single stack 10 round mags that they load with 40's and work? couldnt' find it.
  19. I have both a 6 oz and 9 oz. I love them, I wouldn't do without them. I think it makes a definite difference and feel for the better to me. Then again, I like heavy guns. I'm not too worried about the opening though, it is opened up enough. Although not as big as others, if you are still missing that hole, you need to get some more dry fire practice in. Your fastest reloads you'll ever do are ones that never touch the magwell. It is just a device that sometimes let's you make a mistake and get away with it. But it won't let you do it everytime. Just cause the Burner or Todd doesn't use one, doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. Todd likes his guns light, Rob heavy and Jerry in the middle and light side. All three are the best there are. You have to see what you like.
  20. Thank goodness Jmaass and lynn jones spoke up, I read through the whole post and didn't see mention of the Adidas GSG9. I have shot the GSG9 boots for well over a year and wear them at work everyday. Since the first time I put them on, that was it, there was nothing else that even came close. Cleats are great for shooting in grass, dirt or other surfaces, BUT once you go to a hard surface, you better watch out. GSG9's do it all, they give you the traction of cleats in grass, etc, the athletic shoe feel and grip on plywood or hard surfaces, BEST ankle support I've ever felt, almost feels like my ankles are wrapped each time. When you run, they are light weight, and give you the running shoe feel instead of the hard stepping feeling like cleats. Nice wet grass and I can corner and turn on a dime with great ankle support. I can't think of a surface or condition they don't adapt to. Problem is, I heard they are no longer making them. Bates footwear makes a tactical boot with a Spyder sole like GSG9's, but a little heavier and is more like a boot than shoe. I won't wear anything else! Just ask Jarrett, Barnhart, Strader, Garcia and countless others.
  21. Dowter, Like Flexmoney said, shooting it fast isn't a problem, but shooting it fast and continually sticking mags in it (like 300 rounds in 15 minutes) will get it extremely hot and accelerate the wear process. Remember, we shoot them fast in IPSC matches, but have 15-30 minute waits in between where the gun gets to cool down. Nothing wrong with shooting fast, but if it gets excessively hot, it will wear it out quicker. I've talked with other shooters that routinely put 100,000 rounds through the same frame/slide and sometimes replace little small parts. Barrels are different, some guys will shot them for 100,000 rounds plus and have a smooth bore and still compete with that, others are real picky and want it replaced after 20,000. With Scott G, I've heard it you hard chrome your gun (if it doesn't already have a hard chrome finish) it might tighten it up a little.
  22. 180gr jacketed over 5.0grs VV N320, WSR primer loaded to 1.200 OAL. I tried literally dozens of loads and keep going back to this for the softness, perfect tracking, accuracy and cleanliness. I have now quit looking at anything else. I'll spend by time wiser by shooting more.
  23. I wish someone (Lenny Magill, Action Shooters), somebody would still do the videos. I used to love to watch them. Anyone know of anyone else who does it? Probably because of lack of sales.
  24. In one of the other posts, TGO uses SVI mags with a modified mag release for his Springfield. The BulM5 will use Para mags with the special Para/BulM5 mag release on CRSpeed's website and Bulm5's website. I believe the ENterprise Arms frame also takes Para mags.
