  1. Hi Bob I have been using 200gr H&G68's since I got my .45 many years ago. I did initially have some issues but found that if I loaded the projectile slightly long so that the base of the projectile is sitting outside the case mouth slightly, rather than being flush with the case mouth, this aided in feeding and I have not had any problems since.
  2. +1 for the Speedsec5. Very safe, very comfortable and very fast. Hey Britain what mods have you done to yours if you don't mind sharing!!
  3. As you mention you have problems with the factory and Henning pads I am presuming your using the shorter pads. I use the H-141 length pads for my 45ACP mags and didn't change the springs and have not had any issues. Hope this helps!!
  4. Have you also tried longer OAL bullets? From the pics yours look reasonably short around factory length but from experience the Tanfoglio especially in large frame 40S&W prefers longer OAL. I load mine to 1.175" OAL but know others here load to slightly different lengths from 1.17" to 1.20". I see from the pics that you have the 40 mags with the insert which will probably mean these longer lengths won't fit so might have to get a non-insert mag to test. Also you definitely have the old mag release looking at you pics!
  5. Could also try Shooters Connection who are also on Brians Forums. They carry the Safariland mag holders for Caspian which are the same as the ones you would need for the Limited. They also also carry Speedsec mag pouches which are very similat to the Safariland model. I use both and they are both excellent holders and would recommend either.
  6. Have a look on Henning's Shop he has Safariland 771 mag pouches which should work with your belt!
  7. I don't have any answers but thought I would also add the question of whether anyone has got the 9mm mags with the insert to function correctly or has anyone tried loading the 9mm long to see if that is more succesful. Don't mean to hijack the thread Mike, but thought answers to these two questions would be useful as well.
  8. For what it's worth, I changed all my 45 followers to the 40 followers and also use Hennings slide stop pin rather than the factory one. Did this as was having problems with feeding jams but with the changes all is running smooth, just not locking open on the last round, which is not an issue as I have done this on all my Tanfogs.
  9. Hey henning Thanks for the info. The small frame is a good price so worth having a try!! Worst case scenario I will have to get a small frame barrel. If all goes to plan will touchbase to get some of your bits to upgrade the small frame.
  10. I should have been clearer in explaining why I am asking!! I have a spare Limited Custom barrel in 9mm. I have recently been offered an older Gold Custom model which is in good cond for a very good price but it comes in 9x21. My thought was that as I don't want to go down the road of 9x21, would it be possible to fit the 9mm barrel from the large frame into the Gold Custom slide of the small frame. Obviously a barrel in a 45 or 38 Super would not work but the 9mm might if the barrels that Tanfoglio make are all manufactured the same but the slides for obvious reasons are manufactured with different specs. I would have measured up things with the actual pistol but unfortunately it is presently in another part of the country and I don't have access at the moment to a small frame.
  11. Does anyone know if the barrel from a large frame will also fit into the small frame slide? Simply can you use the same barrel in a small and large frame slide? I seem to remember a long time ago comparing the slides from a large frame & small frame and they appeared slightly diffrent sizes but the actual barrels looked very similar in lengths of chamber, lugs etc.
  12. If it helps, an American company CPMI also make mag pads for the small frame Tanfog/Witness. I have been using these mag pads on my CZ85 and small frame Tanfog (when I had one) for years and they are awesome. The link to their mag pads page is: http://cpmi-usa.com/maghollo.htm
  13. A guy at my Club runs a small frame Open gun in .40S&W. Even with +2 extended pads and playing with the springs and follower, we have only managed to get 14 rounds in the mag. He does have one mag with a fairly long extended base pad he got years ago and that gives him 15 but the mag is starting to get close to the 170mm max length we are allowed in IPSC. Just the sort of info I was looking for; thanks! Wow, that's a huge difference. Guess I won't be shooting Limited with a small frame. Glad I could help. Years ago I had a small frame Limited in .40S&W with the same problem except it was worse because I couldn't use extended pads because it would not fit in the IPSC box for Standard. I was a beautiful pistol and shot well but was too much to compete against pistols with 5-6 more rounds per mag. I now have the large frame Custom with a few extra add-on bits from Henning which are absolutely recommended and worth it and I am in many cases more competitive in terms of mag capacity etc than many Para, S_I etc shooters in my class!!! I would recommend that option definately and Henning is brilliant for help & advice as are all the others forum members. Good Luck!!
  14. A guy at my Club runs a small frame Open gun in .40S&W. Even with +2 extended pads and playing with the springs and follower, we have only managed to get 14 rounds in the mag. 15. If you come across any of the older mags for the CZ's be careful on these as they may be slightly too short to lock into a Tanfog. You can widen the mag notch but that does not ensure reliable feeding. All learned through experience!!!
  16. I found that I needed to adjust the three white screws for awhile until the gun sat solid without any movement. The problem was that that was all well and good until I used it for awhile and it got sloppy again. The fix I used was to adjust the screws again and then lock them in place with some clear silicon so that they wouldn't move. This seems to have cured the issues I had. Hope this helps.
  17. You should be able to set up with teh Stock II mags. If it helps a guy at my club runs a Sig open gun in 9mm with mags that are basically the same size as the small mags. Not sure what his OAL is but it is not so long that it gets stuck in the mag or has any feeding problems. He is running a 147gr pill and using Viht 3N38 which is made especially for 9mm Major. The last time he tested his loads they were running at the velocity indicated in the Viht load manual with less than 10 ft/sec deviation between rounds. This is a sweet gun to shot with these loads!!!
  18. I agree some RO's are morons but its hard to argue with them when they can send you home!!! Yes is was might p****d but held my tongue I still had half the match to go!!
  19. My Limited Custom does this sometimes, not always. However you need to be careful on this as in one match I got a warning for a possible unsafe gun. It obviously depends on the RO on the day etc but it may pay to leave it as otherwise questions may be asked when you don't want them to be! Just my 2 cents worth.
  20. Were you using the S_I model of teh Speedsec? You need to get the Speedsec holster specifically for the rounded guard like a Para/1911. I used to use a Ghost but had the problem with it that you had with the Speedsec. Got the proper model Speedsec for the Para and it doesn't move at all and is quick and easy to use.
  21. No it won't. Not with mine anyway!! The problem is that the "hook" inside the Speedsec wraps around the triiger guard to secure it and the rounded guard is in the wrong place for the hook. I have thought about making up another hook that would fit but in the end decided that was too much like hard work and got a Ghost from Henning and played around with the adjustments for awhile and managed to get it working with the round guard.
  22. Thanks for the replies and input I think to be safe and sure as suggested, I will leave things as they are, it works, is reliable and accurate as is !!!
  23. I had been wondering about adjusting the ejector in that way, which I have done on my Para in 40 but have not been keen to as the ejector in the 1911 is alot thicker from the looks of it and can take a bit of "filing" while the Tanfog/Witness ejector looks too thin to mess with. As a matter of interest I don't have drag marks etc just brass thrown a long way!. I don't have access to an SP-01 as no one at my club uses one so can't gauge the similarity of that ejector to the Tanfog. Does the forum give actual pictures of the tuned ejector as well as the diagram?
  24. I use a Limited Elite/Custom and it is awesome. However my brass is ejecting a good 10 - 15 feet plus which is a pain if I am shooting where it is difficult to find your brass after. I have tried different weight springs to see if that makes a difference but no joy. Does anyone out there have this issue and found a way to cure it??
  25. I use Hogue wrap around finger groove grips on my small frame. Very comfortable and gives a good grip. Hogue list them as CZ grips but they fit both the CZ & Witness/Tanfoglio.
