  1. The very first thing you need do is by a current reloading manual. I've always been partial to http://www.speer-bullets.com/default.asp?s1=1 it's fantastic. Once that is studied visit Brian's store. Dillons 550 or 650 are recommended.
  2. The little popper standing directly in front of a no shoot. Gets to my head instantly.
  3. ...Thanks Bob, I'm better now.
  4. minor or major? It's less that 10mm..so no. But it's above 165pf...so yes. I searched everywhere and no answer. My head hurts....
  5. The 'drill' I shot today was enlightening. Using a strictly production set-up with my XD 9 Tactical. I used up approx 150 rds. Hands at surrender. 5 shots only. USPSA target at 25 yards. "A" hits only. Random buzzer. Worst 11.32 sec. Best 6.62 sec. Mainly stuck around the high 8's. 25 yards seems far with my stock sights. All world numbers? Ah..no. But moving up to 7 yards and averaging around 3 seconds felt pretty good.
  6. ....ok try this....i'm ambidextrous, it's called confused dominance today which sounds sort of umm... anyway i shoot, bat, throw etc with both hands and no preference. my left eye is dominant. when i took up combat shooting two thousand years ago i bought a holster. a leather bianchi model 92 (i think). of course it was a right hand model. it didn't matter. just shoot naturally. no tension. no closing this or tilting that. just draw, aim and shoot.
  7. I ordered and shot the .40 S&W 180gr "minor pf evaluation pak" and was a little disappointed. It functioned perfectly in my XD, that said it was the "minor pf" designation that came up short for me. It felt absolutely no different than full blown factory ammo. I spoke to Precision about it. Nice people. They informed me that the 'minor' loads were coming in around a 160pf. Well, I guess technically they're right, 160 is minor but.... They have since removed the word minor from there product descriptions.
  8. I ordered 250 rnds of Precision Delta's 40 minor. The 9mm conversion barrel, mags and Wally World WWB will be used for live fire practice. The input has been amazing. Thanks!
  9. I shoot a XD40 Tactical. Quit reloading because I'd rather take a beating. Since I shoot only production I bought and dropped in a 'Fire Dragon' 9mm conversion. And, like a dork never REALLY read the rules. So far the RO's have shrugged it off due to the fact that our monthly matches are 'Class 1'. But, my slide and barrel markings don't match and technically this is a no no. $8%#!!! This bugs me. I don't now. Probably sell it all for a XD9 Tactical.
  10. I'll use golf as a comparison. I believe the parallels between these games are spooky close. When I picked up a set of clubs for the first time I was a 30-32 handicap. During one 45 day period (approx. two-three evenings a week from 1/2 to 1 hour in length) my practice was supervised (along with 6 to 8 other players) by a pro. This practice period was bookended by two 45 minute long personal instruction sessions. My handicap dropped to a 16. Over the next month after a couple tournaments and practice it dropped to 11. My point is that good instruction is a must. It provides us with a base. Having learned repeatable solid technique can't be overstated. It affords us a luxury. Now all, or nearly all your focus is course management. And scoring. I'd like to see access to more good instructors in this game too.
  11. pretty sure you'll have no problem with the overbelt. as long as your holster is not of the 'race type' and it's location, along with your mag pouches are behind the hip bones (diagram F3 in the rule book)

    Goals?

Make B in Production and L10.
  13. I find returning to old fashion target shooting very helpful. I'll go as far as setting up a bench and couple simple targets set out at maybe 10 and 20 yds. Tension is at the root of my shooting ills, including slumps. These bench-rest sessions eliminate that. Now I can 're-discover' how the gun looks (front sight) and feels (trigger) when a bullet hits what I'm shooting at. I hope this is of some help. Jimmy
  14. installed and runs fine on my home pc. i have heard of some snags on large network systems at some colleges and large company's. that should come as no surprise. i downloaded my copy from http://www.fileplanet.com/ on the subscriber side. man, it took 20 HUGE minutes to download 244 megs, what a grind sorry....
  15. Production class has brought be back to USPSA, thats good. I shoot 9mm since it's cheap for me, and (my little secret) I HATE TO RELOAD. I would rather, honest to God, take a beating than reload one more round. Now, that said, I have a question about minor calibers. What is the scoring penalty, if any, for shooting a 9 or for that matter, any minor round? Sorry, this looks like an old issue. But, since I can't find my rule book to save my life, your help is appreciated. Thanks, Jim
  16. Will the Pact Club Timer II work for dry fire drills? In other words, is it sensitive enough? Thanks in advance!
  17. Thanks Nik, I think the "keepers" will work for me as well. Your input is appreciated, thanks again...Jim
  18. I got a friendly "heads up" from a RO in last weekends match. Seems my belt (or my method of wearing it is not legal). It's a single nylon belt for my mag holders and holster, and, is attached to nothing. I just fasten it around my waist. I would really appreciate a "Readers Digest" description of "outer/inner" belts and their legal methods of attachment. I shoot L-10. Thanks in advance.
  19. Just finished my first 1K. Good bullet. I'm still leaning towards hard cast lead...again. With major being what it is, low pressure .45ACP rounds shouldn't be producing a leading problem. I just wish I could find a powder that helps the smoke issue. So far, TiteGroup and lead bullets produce way to much smoke. Clays, not so much.
