I have a G24C, already have the Glockworx ultimate trigger and Dawson magwell installed. With a solid barrel and a good set of sights, this seems like an ideal limited gun. However, I could throw an optic on and go open with it as well. I was thinking of getting a 9mm barrel and comp setup instead on it though. Will the Glock frame and guts handle 9mm major? It already seems a little heavy out front so I was thinking of lightening the slide, especially if I were to go the 9mm route. If you like the challenge of shooting iron sights and having a pistol that is somewhat more challenging to control, shoot limited. If you just want to "race", and think learning to shoot an optic sight would be fun, well, shoot open. I don't know the Glock models, so I don't know what a G24C is, but there are a lot of Glocks shooting Major/Open. Of course with iron sights you can shoot Ltd, L-10, and Production with the same gun. I have a G35 with a 9mm barrel and have only gotten it to run 100% at one steel match. 9mm with a .40 breech face is kinda hit and miss with reliability. I agree with Al build the gun to shoot what you want. You could always build a .40 open gun as well. Aircooled6racer Posted October 4, 2009 Share Posted October 4, 2009 Hello: Get a plan 40 barrel and shoot Limited or Limited 10. You will learn alot that way without spending alot. Then you can decide if the Glock plateform is for you. I would also try some open pistols after a match to see if they fit you as well. Shooting an open gun is not always for everyone. A .40 open gun was suggested, I was just worried about capacity for open. I always thought that it would make a bad ass limited gun. Never shot with a dot, wouldn't mind trying though. Harmon Posted October 4, 2009 Share Posted October 4, 2009 the mag capacity is not as big of an issue as folks lead you to believe. the 24 would be a better limited gun, but dont let me decide for you what you want to shoot. a J-point equipped G22 with a lone wolf barrel and Jager comp would be a nice addition to the g24, and it will shoot good enough with your limited ammo to still be pretty competitive. a top end and big stick mag and you should be good to go for both limited and open. harmon Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Over a year later later, trips back to the gunsmith and eliminating every variable except the comp, and thousands of rounds later, I was never able to get the gun to run. I now shoot a Glock 22 in Ltd and I can't get it to malfunction, so I am having way more fun with it. Also, at the Nationals, a shooter ahead of our squad was using an open Glock. I have a 24C with a Fast Fire for GSSF Unlimited and I have shot some steel with it. I don't know of anyone making a threaded barrel to add a regular comp on and it would be pretty long if you could find one. I've added Taylor floorplates to a couple of mags and I can get a reliable 20 round reload with a 170mm mag that I plan to try next year. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The open thing was just brought up by another shooter on our last practice night. Would you guys recommend lightening the slide? Just seems a little heavy up front. calishootr Posted October 7, 2009 Share Posted October 7, 2009 if I miss my guess the 'C' models are ported??? right??? so you cant shoot limited with it, and as someone said its not production legal, so you are whittling off classes as you go....an open class w/ justthe ported barrel??? thats sort of an 'inbetween' sort of a open gun, but not as effective as some others are...add the comps such as the ones featured in front sight a few months ago??? more money to dump in the project....9mm major??? dont know how it will hold up....ran one for 6 months in a indoor range as a rental and it went 60,000 rds in those 6 months butthat was not major 9mm either....swap to a non-ported barrel and shoot limited???? calishootr Posted October 7, 2009 Share Posted October 7, 2009 the gun is already lighter than any SV or STI outthere for recoil managements sake i wouldnt, then again my limited gun is a fairly heavy Limcat custom w/ a tungston sleeve aroundthe barrel and your right about comping it out and tryingto run in open w it, as an example, how many open glocks do you see in the top 16 at the nationals???? now before i get bashed as a Glock hater, I'm not, i own several, but I think in this case they are better served in other classes, ive seen them OWN production in a lot of states(dare i have to mention Mr. sevegny???sp) drop a solid barrel in it and go play in limited or limited-10 as forthe epoxy job on the magwell, if you are having second thoughts on it, a while back I recall that Glock was letting people who got carried away with their dremels on the grips to buy a new grip from Glock, have to send it to em, and they take the lil serial number tab out of it and put it on a new frame....cost was minimal as i recall... But it looks cool......... ganderman Having cracked a slide on a second generation 34, and gotten it replaced by Glock free of charge, I wouldn't be lightening a 24..... Around here, I see maybe one in ten Glocks with lightened slides in Limited division.... Now, if we're talking 1911/2011s, then we're talking different animal altogether....
