ace21 Posted April 19, 2009 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Can someone please clarify something for me. I am in the process of building a Open Div. Glock 17 but I am getting alot of mixed answers..... Is it ok to shoot major out of a glock? there seem to be alot of people saying that .... DO NOT shoot major and minor would be the only thing that they would use a glock for. kframe_mike Posted April 19, 2009 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Just think of the G22,same frame,ALMOST the same barrel and slide,most of the small parts are the same.They shoot factory Major loaded ammo,some pretty violent(IMO),all the time and they handle it just fine.I wouldn't be worried about 9 Major in a G17.Actually,an Open 9 Major 17 is on my to-do list.-Mike Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm certainly no expert on the topic, but if you search around a little bit, you'll probably find that almost all the guys running 9major in glocks are using gunsmith fit aftermarket barrels. I've heard that they can be pretty finicky but once you get the right load and setup, they run nice. Thanks Should be no problem even in the US. I say even in the US because as far as I know Major is 165 on your side of the pond. Its 160 on mine. For loading always use new or max 1 time fired cases. Also always the same brand. Stay as low to minimum factor as possible. The Glock chamber is not 100% supported so you dont want to have weak cases. Go as light with the bullet as possible (120 min for Major). there are some 121 grain bullets out there otherwise 124, Stay way from heavier ones you want lots of pressure for the comp. I am not a specialist for powder but use progressive one. You dont want fast burning one. You could still make major but with much more gas pressure. Get a Seidler CompSet. Not sure if they sell it in the US but if yes get it. Seidler is one of the foremost Glock Tuner her in Austria just 30 min ride from the Glock HQ. The advantage of this set is that the comp is not screwed infront of the barrel like with most but its like a vented barrel. The Barrel is longer than the orignal and it has 6 vents on the front. 3 right and 3 left on the extended part of the barrel that is longer than the slide. This setup will add a few fps compared to the regular barrel. the comp as such is then put over the barrel and has the main function of moving the gases in the desired direction. By the way, if you have a chance to get Seidler stuff in the US get the Seidler scope mount. Its the lowest available. you have to remove the sight otherwise it would not cycle. Graham Smith Posted May 4, 2009 Share Posted May 4, 2009 If I understand things correctly... The main thing to bear in mind about 9mm major is that 9mm +P ammo is only about a max 155 PF. So, in addition to PF, you need to be concerned with the PSI of your load. 9mm major loads use slower powders which help keep the PSI down while keeping the PF up. All have run very well, two are smith built and the third- was a copy of the other two-RE: parts, but he built it at home- so far several matches no problems!
