Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. You could use 10rd or 15rd mags and just shoot Limited 10. You will be more competitive since most of the Limited shooters have 21-24 rounds in their mags.
  2. I like shooting Three Gun the most, so I have a 9mm Limited gun. I can start a stage with 25rnds in the gun. I consider pistol matches as practice for Three Gun. I had some work done on my gun last week and wanted to do a test and tune so I shot the local IDPA match with my limited gun in the "Not For Score" division this weekend. I know when shooting USPSA in Minor I lose points over Major, but I really like 9mm guns. Low recoil, faster follow up shots, holds more, and much cheaper to shoot.
  3. I have a 9mm Trojan. It won't feed anything that isn't round nose. I have tried Tripp and Wilson mags. I sent it to a gunsmith and he polished the feed ramp like crazy. Its the same thing, try and rack the first round and it just nose dives into the feed ramp. I just shoot it with round nose bullets and it seems to work just fine. I wish it would feed flat nose and hollow point, but everyone that has looked at it either says they can't fix it, or they try and it still doesn't work.
  4. I have a DD 14.5" middy with the 12" lite rail. Its the gov profile barrel and its a just the right weight. I thought about a lightweight barrel but figured the little extra weight was worth it to have more confidence in shooting more ammo faster and not worrying about over hearting the barrel. If you get a 14.5" barrel, make sure you try out and LOVE the comp/brake you get perm attached. Once its on, its on for good.
  5. I currently have 1 18" rifle length gas gun 2 16" mid length guns 1 14.5" mid length gun All of them have the PRI QC Brake. The 14.5 gun has an Eotech XPS2 on it and its my favorite gun to shoot. Its lightweight and shoots super soft. I use a 16" mid length for 3 Gun because it has a Trijicon TR24 and works good for short and long range stages My 18" is put away and I havn't even seen it in a few months. I keep telling myself to change the handguard on it and sell it off. I just havn't gotten around to it. You can compensate for velocity loss from a shorter barrel with ammo selection. We chrono the different lots of ammo we get. The ammo that is higher velocity gets set aside for long range stages, the softer ammo for hosing. You would be amazed by the velocity changes of different lots of ammo from the same manufacturers.
  6. I would suggest check out the Taran Tactical Innovations uppers. Here is the link I have been running one of these all year and its great. Mine is the Ultimate with a 12" handguard.
  7. I started shooting 3 Gun with a Glock 17, then went to a M&P 9mm 4.25", then a M&P Pro 5" 9mm and now a SV 9mm. If you can't afford a custom built 2011 or a SV, I recommend a M&P Pro with a trigger job. In the SV I use Taran Tactical Innovations magazines and they hold 24 +1 rds, reloadable. I think I did one pistol reload at Nationals this year and I don't think I did a reload at all at Superstition. Its nice to start a stage with 25rds in the pistol! 9mm is the way to go for 3 Gun. Less recoil, faster follow up shots, higher mag capacity, cheaper ammo.
  8. The Mini is a great rifle. I have used one for hunting. It has a Hogue stock on it and we sent it out and had a trigger job done on it. For hunting and having around the ranch, its a perfect "ranch rifle". I've taken coyotes, squirrels, and rabbits with it. Its a ton of fun to bump fire into pumpkins. If I was new to competition, I would buy an AR. No doubt in my mind. If I already had a Mini, I would use it until I learned the sport and then would save up and buy a really nice AR. The Mini has slower reloads, more felt recoil, and isnt as accurate. That rules it out for any serious competition.
  9. Taran just posted that he is offering free shipping this week on his TR-1 Ultralite and TR-1 Ultimate uppers on his website. He said just choose store pickup for shipping options. I shoot the Ultralite and couldn't be happier.
  10. Hey guys. I wanted to give a shout out to Taran and his rifles. I used an upper he built me for Superstition and Nationals this year and I really like it. Check out his website and tell me what you think. tarantactical I've seen some people talking about his shotguns, but not much on his rifles.
  11. My girlfriend gave me a load of crap for buying another gun I didn't need. She just didn't understand. I HAD to buy that gun. There was no option
  12. I bought a Trojan 9mm in like new condition for $600. Out the door with tax and background was less than 675. You just have to keep your eyes open and be ready to buy on the spot.
  13. I bought the stock used and it already had the paint job and bottom metal with mag. I believe that it was painted by bell and Carlson before they discontinued custom paint options. The stock definitely adds some weight but the gun balances well.
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions. Here is an update on the rifle build. Getting the gun from Remington was a pain in the butt. I had to put calls into USPSA to get it. Remington kept giving me the run around saying that they can't ship rifles to California. Anyhow, here is what I have done so far to the rifle Bell & Carlson stock with custom paint Surgeon bottom metal that accepts Accuracy International magazines Accuracy International 10rd mag Precision Reflex (PRI)20 MOA steel base PRI Aluminum intermediate rings Leupold MK4 4.5-14 scope with TMR reticle Since this rifle is a Police model, it came with the 40-X trigger which is fully adjustable, so I set it to 2 lbs. I also bought a PRI muzzle brake but havn't had a chance to get the barrel threaded yet. I've only fired 22rds through it. I broke the barrel in by firing a round and cleaning it for 10 rnds. Then I fired two rounds and cleaned it for the next 10. I ordered some Black Hills ammo and when that shows up I'll group it. What do you guys think?
  15. Taran does offer the Benelli bolt lightening as a separte service. The bolts are fluted and have the cuts and welds so the gun can be ghost loaded and be reloaded when the bolt is out of battery. The bolts are IonBond coated and laser engraved. He has bolts already cut and coated and can swap them out in exchange for your bolt. I would call him to get a price. Here are some other Benelli parts he just released
