Putty
My STI has a mag release that only hercules can depress in order to get the mag to drop. Is it a viable option to cut down the spring in order to get a lighter release?
Joe4d
Sure, but for about 5 bucks you can get a 4 spring set that has 4 different weights, be alot more precise getting release you want. Personally I use extra power heavy springs in mine. I like my mags to stay put unless I really want to drop them.
Josh Biondi
You can cut the coil spring but be careful doing this because you can get a too light mag release..... so cut a coin for time....
Flatland Shooter
Tried cutting the mag catch release spring and found the results to be unsatisfacory. Try a Wolff "try-pack" set of 4 different strength springs. One of them is bound to be ideal for you. {Brownells Part No 969-271-700 - $9.00} Bill
Gregg K
The Wolff try pack of springs has 5 springs, one is the factory equivalent and then there is a reduced power #1,2,3 and 4. The number 4 is the weakest. Brownell's sells the try pack and then they have 10 packs of the #2 and #3, that indicates that the #2 and #3 are the most popular. I like the #3 the best and have never dropped a mag by accident.
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Cut the spring. I cut one coil off at a time till you get the tension you like. If you go to far then buy the spring pack. Thanks, Eric
JThompson
I had to go the other way with mine. When I brought my weak hand in I was dropping the mag... I just pulled the spring a bit and put it back in... no problems since.
