BackGunner Posted March 30, 2007 Share Posted March 30, 2007 (edited) For those that have had a Trigger Slap Problem with their XD, What did you do to fix the problem? Hello I have a XD9 Tactical and I am experiencing Trigger Slap, vibrations felt in the trigger upon firing. It is not a pinch between trigger and trigger guard, nor is it sharp edge from trigger safety. It has been 3 days since I have fired 300 rounds and I still feel discomfort on my trigger finger pad. First time in my life this has happened. The gun shoots accurate. I have shot many guns with many thousands of rounds in many different calibers in different matches and I have never experienced this. I have tried to post this question in other forums and I get answers that are not productive such as "your follow through is to hard", "you are pulling the trigger to hard", "your finger is getting pinched between trigger and guard", "you have office worker hands", etc... Shawn Knight Posted March 30, 2007 Share Posted March 30, 2007 Hmmmm..... I have a few thousand rounds through my XD9tac and my finger doesn't hurt at all. All I can think is that your trigger finger is contacting the bottom of the trigger and getting pinched between the trigger and the bottom of the trigger guard. Try training your self to hold the middle of the trigger or just a little higher than the bottom. Also watch out for letting off the trigger and not reseting it. Try just reseting the trigger and see if it still hurts. Only alternative would be to get one of the trigger specialists to work the trigger for you. Resjudicata Posted March 30, 2007 Share Posted March 30, 2007 (edited) I assume you have posted on the XD forum? http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/ If so, and your technique is good, and you are actually getting real "trigger slap" then I would suggest sending it back to SA or to one of the reputable gunsmiths who do trigger jobs on XDs. I know you don't want to hear this but I know how the XD trigger works and frankly I don't see how real "trigger slap" is even possible with that mechanism. Chris XD9 ETA: For the record, trigger slap means that the trigger is forcefully reset, or moves forward, against the pressure of you finger. Meaning that while you do not release pressure on your trigger finger to allow the trigger to reset but the trigger moves against the pressure of your finger. If you have actual trigger slap then you can feel it when dry firing. Start with gun unloaded, pull the trigger all the way back and hold it. Then cycle the slide completely and at some point either during the back motion of the slide or the forward motion you would feel the trigger jump under your finger. This is real trigger slap. It is real. Every one in awhile I get one in that is painful (like a sharp sting to tip of the finger.) When the trigger comes back the spring is snapping the trigger safety into the tip of the finger will some force and it can hurt too. I test fire guns about every day, so I don't have sissy hands either. It takes a bit of rounding here and there and reducing the power of some springs so I'm afraid I can't post a "How to" reduce the slap, because you can mess things up if not done right and we all know how easy it is to get parts from SA. Ahh, I didn't know the trigger safety could pop back. That would explain why people keep mentioning the sore finger. Just another reason to send it to someone who knows what they are doing like you. It felt like the only people replying to my inqueries on other forums were jokesters. Since it never happened to them, it couldn't possibly be real, since it couldn't possibly be real, the poster must not know what they are talking about. Believe me, I know what a f***ing pinched finger feels like. It's seemed like the only ones to frequent shooting forums these days are members of the flat earth society, and or post whores. "Gee that never happened to me" No f***ing s***? Damn I guess it hasn't also happened to 5 billion other people on this planet, thank god they didn't reply to my post... I am new to the Brian Enos forums and I had hoped for a more professional response. I was really starting to loose hope... Thanks again Loves2Shoot. I digress... Loves2Shoot, I have another question: Do you know of a gun shop that would understand the problem and have the ability to fix it? I do not want to send it back to SA. They are really friendly and really willing to warranty their products but I have not had the best of luck with them with my SA 1911-A1. But that is another story. Also another XD shooter is having the same problem and SA reply to him is that it's normal. Huh? I am thinking of trying a "drop in" sear and spring kit from Springer Precision. I understand his frustration, because I deal with customers all the time who get advise, like, "I've never seen it so it must not exist, you are just a sissy." But to this date I don't recall ever been called a sissy...
