1911user
Are standard small rifle primers from CCI and Winchester ok to use for a stock AR-15? I understand the AR uses a floating firing pin, but haven't seen an emphasis on using "hard" primers in 3-gun loads. It's about time to order more and CCI #41s are harder to find and more expensive at places with them in stock.
D.Hayden
So far, I only use Winchester Small Rifle primers. Haven't loaded a lot, maybe 5,000 or so.. no problems for me.
uscbigdawg
WSR 'cause I'm lazy. I load them in my .40 and .38 Super. Just makes buying sleeves easier. They work great! Rich
George
Small Rifle is the correct primer for loading .223. CCI, WW, Federal, all are fine. I never use anything but WW rifle primers myself.
Larry White
I use win. most of the time but have used fed. with no issues. Federals are harder to handle because of the funky boxes but work fine.---------Larry
wsimpso1
No real need for military (hard) primers in AR15's. Use what is available and give best accuracy/consistency. Billski
Dan Sierpina
I use Remington 7 1/2 benchrest primers. They give tiny groups with my AR. Sierra 52 MK or Nosler 55 BT over H335.
Patrick Sweeney
The only case (no pun intended) I can see for the harder, military primers in .223 is if you're feeding them into an AK thusly chambered. Otherwise, small rifle.
Tom D.
Be sure primers are seated at least flush regardless of which brand you choose.
