Weigrand/brownells New Rear Site Blade?

Brownells sells a rear site replacement, that makes the rear site picture more like a Bomar. Plus a deeper notch than factory sites.

Anybody using these, was thinking about replacing mine in several s&w.

I read you have to break the sight screw off then replace and stake.

Brownells sells the bit and stake tool, any advice in working on the site.

Thanks in advance

Honestly? I'd recommend you avoid the Weigand rear blade. I've tried these on a couple guns, and I'm lukewarm on them. Pretty good idea, but not real well executed if you ask me. It'll fit loosely and flop around more than you like. It's also made of aluminum and will slowly turn silver with use, and you can't touch it up with cold blue.

The Milletts are more expensive, but well worth it, in my view. Plus you don't have to mess around breaking and replacing the windage screws and all that jazz.

I think if you do a search for "Weigand" or "sight blade" you'll find some more info, a few

have posted both positive and negative opinions about it.

I have one myself and the work was easy, instead of staking the nut on I used Loc-tite

and it's held up so far.

The blade has a lot movement in the original S&W sight, I worry how long it will last.

I now change to the Millet sights, a few more $$ but more robust IMO, and no rework

required ;)

(and I see I typed too slow again

I agree with Dave and Mike. Great idea but poorly executed. I bought the narrow one (0125) from Brownells and when installed it had a little shake. Then I found out Weigands sells one that has a .110 wide slot I had to have one (you will have to buy it straight from Weigand).

It was looser than the first. I improvised a shim for the pair using low pressure duct tape. It works okay once you get it together. I'm still using them but when the time comes for replacement I'll probably go with Millett.

Perhaps there are some tolerance differences in the S&W rear sights? I have the Weigand rear on my 625 and it has no shake or wobble at all. It has been installed for several years and I really like it, even better than the Millet sights.

I am using one of the LPA sights purchased from Randy Lee. The rear notch seems a little shallow, but I find the sight is much easier to get on target than the S&W, or the Weigand. I have never seen one of the Millets, could some one post a photo of one.

I also went with the LPA rear sight, this for a 5" 625.

This set came from

www.speedshooterspecialists.com

There has been enough time to get them on but haven't had the chanced to work with them.

What is a rounded tang????

I've looked them all over, I going to order a millett target from Brownells. I'll let you know what I think.

Rounded tang is for the newer revo's, I think Brownells calls it "post 94" or something like

that  At the front of the sight leaf where the screw holds it to the frame, it's either

squred off or round, easy to spot.

Here's a round tang:

And here's the page for the older sights:

Hey !?!?!? maybe this needs a sticky :)
