rvandermillion
I recently picked up 3 para open guns with cmore serendipity optics on them and was wondering if there were other options since the frame material is thin compared to a 2011 platform. dapribek
I wonder if a gunsmith could mill your slide so it would accept one of the red dots that is popular in Carry Optics, like a Trijicon SRO.

Yes, that is something that could be done but I think sticking with a frame mounted option has its advantages over a slide mounted one.

The best way to handle that in the past was to weld/silver solder a pad of metal onto the dust cover to reinforce it and then drill and tap through that pad and the dust cover. sc68cal
Is the dust cover drilled and tapped with the 5 screw pattern or three screw pattern? The main issue is making sure the optics mount is centered over the bore, sometimes you need a shim between the optic mount and the dust cover to have it line up correctly, if the dust cover isn't wide enough. Generally, I don't think the side of the dust cover takes a lot of stress where the optic is mounted, so you should be fine.

I wouldn't trust a thin Para dust cover for a single side mount. It used to be common for Paras with single side mounts on them to form cracks through the mount holes and then need to be welded up because the screws wouldnt stay... If it's a thin dust cover Para either have a pad installed or use a double side mount.

I think I will look for a dual side mount for a frame with a 0.750 width.

I think that I will continue to use the serendipity and look for a dual sided mount as I think a single side will put too much strain on the dust cover. He is probably one of the last gunsmiths that still works on a few para open guns. I know he just rebuilt one like a month ago.

Yep given the low mass of a setup like that, it's probably the thing least likely to give trouble.
