Had this happen in my A2 Armament conversion today. A first for me!  It damaged my BD magazine. After looking it over still shoots great.  Anyone have this happen to them on a AR22 conversion?

If you shoot enough .22lr, eventually it will happen to your AR22, 10/22, 15/22, Ruger MKI, II, III, IV, Buck Mark, Model 41, etc...take your pick.

Any idea what causes it?   I’ve shot a lot of 22 over the years and never had that happen.

I had this happen to my Ruger MK IV last fall. I want to say it was with Aguila Super Extra HV. I want to say this happens when the bolt does not fully seat but is able to release the hammer. In short its an out of battery ignition situation. I can tell you one thing it scared the crap out of me. I was fortunate it was on my last stage near my last run.

I had the same thing happen recently while I was shooting Aguila 40 grain SE ammo in my Walther Colt Gold Cup Trophy.  Shocked me but fortunately the only damage was some dirt on my hands and I could feel the gasses hit my glasses.  Always were safety glasses when shooting. 

 

It happened twice on the same outing.  I since got rid of all my Aguila ammo and started shooting Federal BYOB and CCI Mini Mags with no further problems.

Several times with Aguila ammo.  I got so fed up I gave it away.  Never happened with any other brand.

Yup, Im done with it. The HV & STD Vel is really accurate but it sticks like gorilla tape in the mag and smells odd to boot
