I shoot rifle and pistol at local club. I'm new at reloading for pistols,9mm, and I bought a new dillon 550c.For rifles I use the lee Target master for many, many years, kinda slow but accurate and simple. l'm retired so have plenty of time. With the Dillon I'm having problems keeping a consistent COL.So search the dillon topics..i'm on it.lol

Welcome to the forum!

What are you considering as "consistent"?

There is always going to be some variation in OAL with the progressive.

The trick with the 550 is to tighten the shell plate all the way down, then loosen it just enough to rotate, and then only set your OAL with a case in every station (size deprime, rotate, size deprime, drop powder, rotate, size deprime, drop powder, set bullet check OAL, rotate, size deprime, drop powder, set bullet, check finished round as it comes out).

With a case in only the bullet seating station, when you raise the ram, the shell plate can rock some, causing some variation. With a case in every station, the case fills the space where it would rock.
