Jim Watson
I have seen recent adverts from Lee and Hornady for complex looking specialty dies. Has anybody tried one or the other? Lee Ram Swage for primer pocket crimp removal. Fits single stage press sort'a like RCBS but has a spring loaded shell holder instead of the "stripper washer." https://leeprecision.com/ram-swage.html Looks like it is caliber specific. Hornady shows a combination seat-crimp die with a lot of parts and separate adjustments. https://www.hornady.com/reloading/dies/custom-grade-dies#!/ Have to select "Taper crimp/seating die" I couldn't get a direct link. jejb
The Hornady seat/crimp die is similar to the RCBS 9mm die I've been using for years. Edited June 21, 2021 by jejb
Plinker45ACP
Hornady does not make trick dies. Normal handgun seater dies from Hornady are a roll crimp built into the dies. A while back Hornady started offering a Taper Crimp Seater in 9MM 40 and 45. (they offer sets with roll crimp or taper crimp) And, not in other handgun cartridges. As a result you can source the seater with TC and use it separately as a taper crimp die.
Jim Watson
I see a die with two moving parts, two adjustable parts, a lock ring, and two O rings. That is pretty trick vs my old Lyman with a body and a plug.
dannyd
They work very well first set of dies I purchased 32 years ago; when they were a new ideal. Just got a set of 45 acp the other day.
Tunachaser
When I first started with 9 mm I used the Hornady taper crimp/seater which worked well with jacketed bullets. When I started loading coated lead I started using it to seat only and got a separate crimp die. The instructions that came with the die gives the set up with and without a crimp.
