All Steel Limited Gun

UPDATE: Finished this season using the gun. Helped me take high A Limited at Nationals and Area 2. The MOST reliable firearm I have ever owned. Runs and runs and is still vault tight and just as accurate. I am a believer in having custom guns built to your specifications. Few things in life are as satisfying.

I was really happy with my switch from my STI Executive to my Para P-16. Steel frames and I are just a better fit. The Para however, did not have the fixed sights I wanted and I wanted less of a chance of frame cracking in the future. I chose to get a Springfield Hi-Cap forged frame and have Rich Dettlehouser of Canyon Creek Firearms build my 40 limited gun.

Just received this a week ago. I am blown away by the work that Rich put into building this gun for me. It started as a Springfield GI .45 WW2 model. I stripped it for the frame and all the other parts will be a future project gun of mine. Added to the frame I sent Rich were these parts:

STI slide - .40SW barrel - guide rod - firing pin, Heinie Rear Sight, Novak Front Sight, AFTEC extractor, C&S Ultra Match kit, S&A Para Magwell, and S&A Beavertail.

Rich fitted all the parts and flat topped the slide, added front serrations (STI Stylee), and put the SV trigger together using some parts he had, and some I sent him.

He was outstanding to work with. Great communication and insight as I made my parts selections. Very flexible about what he worked with. I sent the parts to him in the beginning of May and 6 weeks later it was in my impatient hands.

At the end, he had two very small pits in the ends of the welds on the new trigger guard, which he couldn't remove. They were both impercetible to my eyes. However Rich said he felt bad that he couldn't get them removed so he threw in an entire Gun-Kote on the pistol. That my friends, is some good business. Rich also added a couple of his own tweeks like adding a hole to the King's ambi safety to be able to remove it simply by lifting the right side after the slide is off, instead of swinging it all the way down.

The grips are skateboard tape I added over the stock Springfield plastic grips.

Limited perfection in my eyes. I highly recommend Rich's 1911 work to anyone!

since the sti for para magazines are kinda hard to find, would para 16-40 magazines fit and function, and any word if maybe springfield might make a 40 S&W hi-cap like the WWII model? that's now I got my limited gun build this year started with same frame as you did and went from their ended up about 1400 all togeather not counting magazines and basepads. runs great like a springfield!
