9mm Major Loads through a 9x21 Witness Barrel ... Yes / No ?

A fellow shooter, who is not on the Internet, wants to shoot 9mm Major

Rounds in his Witness Gold Team 9x21 barrel. He also wants to shoot

Moly-Coated Lead Bullets.

I recommended he should buy a 9mm barrel and shoot jacketed only.

You guys have the experience with this round, so please enlighten us

with the best advice. Also, some of your favorite load data would be

greatly appreciated.

I've done it in a 9x21 barrel worked fine. I didn't shoot coated but I know some do with no issues.

What bullet weight? I like 115s

Powder? I like 3N38 or HS6

High 8ish grains of HS6 under a 115 an 1.15-1.17 should be in the 165-175 range (low to mid nines with 3n38).

If I was to do it, I would load the lead bullet using the longest COL that feeds and chambers (seems obvious, but...)--hopefully with the bullet just contacting the lede. My 9x21s hit major easily, but I have never really considered using 9x19 cases.

Silhouette has been best in 9x21, with Power Pistol next.

If a 9mm works in a Super chamber it'll work in one slightly shorter.

The chamber is not the limiting factor, it's the mags; RN should work out to ~1.170"

Back in the day my friend was sponsored by eaa and the only brass they would send him for his 9x21 open gun was 9x19. Still runs to this day on 9x19.

Oal should be about 1.160 with those small frame magazines.
