formernuke
I just got a AR 10 I know each rifle is different so I'm just looking for some starting points on bullets and powder to narrow the choices. The barrel is Rainer arms 18 inch 1/11 twist poly gonal rifling. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Wild Gene
do not use the smk's for hunting, there are better bullets available, such as their game kings. does sort of depend on what you are hunting too.
formernuke
I want a good universal round. I don't want to go any lower than 155 grains for the bullet. I've heard good things about berger and hornandy bullets but one of my concerns is feeding since this is a AR 10 rather than a bolt action. Although it would be fun to target shoot longer distances I would not want to try and take down game at any further with a 308 unless it was an absolute emergency. Plus I have a bolt 7mm rem mag for really long distance.
LSnSC
600 meters is a long shot on game IMO. I would see if my rifle would shoot a 165-180 gr bonded bullet like the Accubond.
spd522
I used Freedom Arms 178 gr A-Max last year in my DPMS AP4 308 I use for 3 Gun to take two deer. Both dropped in their tracks. 1.355 " group at 200 with it. Hornady Superformance 165 SST are amazing on deer too. I have had good long range success (612 yd antelope) with 150 Nosler BT handload also. For elk or anything big, 180 gr Barnes TSX is my preferred bullet.
