marmarsamson
So I'm going to start with vv 3n37 7.4gr with a 124gr bullet using a small rifle primer. What do you guys think?

BeerBaron
Sounds like a good plan to me. I use fed small rifle but any brand should work.
marmarsamson
Beerbaron What do you think about using power pistol powder? My I ask if you don't mind what's your load for your 38 super of if you have 9 major? Thanks
BeerBaron
I don't really see power pistol here so can't give any help there. I think for a 9mm gt v12 win autocomp would be a decent choice. Some powders that guys use in other 9major guns wont get you there in the v12. IF I was going to run a 9mm v12 Id start with this: Win autocomp start around 7gn (please check appropriate start load, that's off the top of my head) Fed small rifle primer 124gn RN cmj of some kind (I like frontier but there are many other good ones) Oal around 1.15 or even a little longer if you can. My super load is: Starline brass 124gn RN cmj 10.4gn vv 3n38 Fed small rifle primer Oal around 1.240 atm (as short as 1.235 and long as 1.250 work fine for me). Hits 172pf out of my v12 GT. kneelingatlas
My guess is that you'd settle in at 8gr of Autocomp under a 124.
marmarsamson
K I'll try autocomp. What is the difference between vv 3n37 and 3n38?

BeerBaron
3n37 is faster burning. by weight you can use less 3n37 to make the same PF as you would with 3N38. hence why in a 9mm major V12 GT you may not physically be able to put in enough 3N38 to make major with a 124gn pill but you might make it with 3N37. if you already have 3N37 try that. it's a good powder. Autocomp is probably cheaper though and may be easier to get. Another option in the VV range is N350.
marmarsamson
Thanks beerbaron yah I'm picking up autocomp also. But I do have 4lbs 3n37 to start with.
marmarsamson
What's a affordable bullet to use? I heard xtreme bullets are really affordable but which one for 9mm
BeerBaron
For a tanfog 9mm something sized 356 or larger is the go. Avoid anything 355. I shoot frontier 124gr RN CMJ and they shoot great. Not sure how readily available where you are. Xtreme are popular too. Otherwise Montana gold are also popular.
marmarsamson
I was thinking about using xtreme just to get the proper load before I go to the solid good ones.
Nealio
If you run Xtremes, get the hollowpoints, they are double plated and hold up better than the standard plating.
marmarsamson
BBeebaron the 356 size in xtreme bullets for the 9mm are 145gr above anything below 113gr are 355. Are the frontiers bullets 124 is it size 356? Or I can use FP or HP xtreme 124gr .355 diameter. Cause the expand in the barrel when you shoot it and still hit the barrel thread to spin out? Nealio
Maybe BeerBaron could explain what the issue is with .355's? Is it an open major PF thing? I've shot 20K of .355's out of my Limited gun with excellent accuracy. Also I run .355 100gr, 115gr, and 124gr in my open gun, but I run minor PF.
