Rear Internal Slide Lightening Cuts

Greetings,

I would like to share pictures of rear internal slide lightening cuts using the plunge cut method. Early Colt Gold Cup and Commander slides use a side mill cut which doesn't remove as much material compared to plunge cut.

Weight reduction is 30 grams. The theory behind this is that the less weight on the slide that travels over the wrist, the less muzzle flip. Used in combination with a tungsten sleeved barrel, which lightens the front of the slide, you have a faster cycling slide.

Second picture shows a Colt Commander slide on the left. Extractors are installed in both slides.

Looks good!

I think that theory has some validity, too.

Here are the cuts from my steel gun. In a previous life it was a single stack open gun with similar under slide plunge cuts, but they didn't break through. After deciding to re-purpose the gun the slide was significantly lightened and the plunge cuts became thru cuts.

Hello: That is a great way to lighten an IDPA slide as well. You can also cut out under the rear sight to remove a little more weight. Tri Top the slide and you can get the weight way down for a single stack 9mm. Thanks, Eric

Wouldn't that be against the rules? Not that anyone would check at a major match, but still shady nonetheless. The internal slide lightening, not the tri top.

In IDPA internal lightening is good to go in ESP. In USPSA Limited, Limited 10, and Open as well. Single stack is a lot less clear, however, cuts duplicating those found on mass produced slides and cocking serrations, etc, are allowed. There are a few factory slides with internal cuts...
