Nimitz Posted October 8, 2014 Share Posted October 8, 2014 For any of you that shoot at a range that hosts a regular SC match how does the range mark their bays so that they don't have to measure every time they setup and the markers are somehow permenant in the bay? We are trying to find a clever way to do this as our current system of putting these small square metal survey markers with a stake on them get covers up with silt when it rains or worse, we find them on the range tables where some idiot has pulled them out of the ground for some reason ... ZackJones Posted October 8, 2014 Share Posted October 8, 2014 I bought some 2" diameter washers. I painted then white and red and then nailed them into the ground. Red indicates where rimfire flag and stop plate go and white designate where targets go. It worked well until someone decided they weren't visible enough and painted them all orange . How well do they hold up to lawn mowers? Also hold USPSA and ICORE matches in the same bays at different times of the month, would they become an issue (tripping hazard) when running those matches? No issues as of yet, and we've been doing it this was for 3 maybe 4 years. Our bays are gravel/sand, so no issues with lawn mowers. Obviously it doesn't help if somebody goes: hey, what's this...? The stages are always in the same bay, and each bay has two sets of color coded whisker spikes in them, one set marks the dimensions of the stage from week1, the other set marks the stage from week2. MarkCO Posted October 9, 2014 Share Posted October 9, 2014 We run 3Gun, USPSA, IDPA, SASS, RFC in our bays and we have about 150 casual shooters use the berms on a monthly basis, and they get mowed too. We have 13 bays, so they do set up the full 8 courses in the same 8 bays each month. Only time we lose them is when the bays get the drag sled pulled through them. Each bay has 3 different colors, then we have a book that says what stage gets set up on what color for each bay. We also have plates in the ground that are the same colors, but our bays are gravel so they went with the whiskers. The plates get hard to find after some gravel covers them. When you set up your stands, put them on top of or in front of the whiskers, if the stands are behind the whiskers they get pretty chewed up from lead hitting them.
