What bullet doesn't work well in a XDM .45

Hello

I believe this is my 2nd post. I acquired an XDM .45 and was wondering if anyone has found a bullet that doesn't feed well with this gun? I have some plated 230 RN and Hornady Hp's but no other more conical shaped bullets. I'd prefer to not waste money.

Thanks in advance for reading.

I have fired 200gr. LSWC's, 200gr. Plated SWC's, 200gr. Moly SWC's, 230gr. PRN's, 230gr Bayou RN's and 225gr. LTC's.

I was having some issues with the plated SWC's and the LSWC's. However, I believe this was operator error as I listened to the wrong advice and loaded them too short when I should have loaded longer. Just ran 50 LSWC's at a match (since I had them just sitting around) and they ran flawlessly when seated to 1.250.

I have never had an issue with round nose bullets. They feed and go bang every time.

Never had an issue with hollowpoints either. The XD(M) really does take whatever you can throw at it.

I have a 4.5" XDM in 45ACP. I have not found a bullet that mine will not run. I don't typically run semi wad cutters but I had some left over from an experiment with a previous gun. The XDM ran those Ranier SWC's even though no other gun I had tried them in would (tried my gun and others).

I would not hesitate to try flat nose bullets. Based on my experience I would not anticipate having any issues.

All my 45's are 3" barrels. Springfield 1911, Kahr PM45 The plated RN & HP run fine. I set the OAL at 1.250 and they ran ok but not dependable. I didn't like screwing with them so quit loading SWC.

I can't tell you of a bullet that doesn't feed in the XDm 45, but I can tell you that my most favorite to shoot is the Lee 230gr TC. Super easy feeding and a very accurate bullet out of the XDm.

Thanks again for all of your info. Shooting .45 on a wholesale basis is new for me. I couldn't shoot my P220 very well because I'm missing about 1/2 inch of my right thumb ( damn table saw). It seems that the XDM fits a lot better in the hand and no de-cocker. Was going to try some swc's. Been piecing together Primers and Brass.

I have a 9mm XDm but a friend of mine has the .45. Any and everything I have loaded up, it ate pretty good. I can't think of a single bullet profile that it didn't care for (in 9 or .45) at any weight unless I made them a little too long. Feed it! Great shooting gun.

My OALs:

230gr. RN's = 1.24

225gr. LTC = 1.20

200gr. LSWC = 1.25

Xtreme Plated SWC's didn't run very well for me, so I won't even mention the OAL.

My primary rounds are 230gr. RN's from Bayou, 225gr. LTC's from Roger's Better Bullets and when running indoors: 230gr. plated RN.s from Xtreme.

But now there are so many other choices out there... Bayou just expanded their color selection (need me some red bullets), SNS Casting offers gold coated and a newcomer manufactures in blue... So many choice, so little money.

I bought a bunch of Berry's 230 gr rn and work up a good load for that. I'm such a brass scrounge, spent way too much time picking up brass today than shooting it.

Thanks again for replying I was able to gain some very good knowledge.

Most of what I've loaded is Rainer Ballistics plated bullets. With the stock magazines I've had very few issues with RN, FN, HP or SWC. The Canyon Creek extended mags haven't been as reliable but have worked fine so far with the RN.

SWC - 1.25

FN - 1.225 but 1.25 worked as well (Tried both do test the extended mags)

RN - 1.26

HP - 1.25

The longer lengths also seem to work better with the extended mags for the XDS.

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving

I've have found absolutely nothing so far that will no feed. My particular pistol eats everything so far. My pistol is a late production 4.5" .45 XDM. I'm using 6 new magazines and only 1 will not lock the slide back. The gun received a thorough cleaning when i started and has not been cleaned since. There is 1750 rnds when i stopped shooting the various test rnds. I ran it like I stole it that way if it gets fickle then I know what the limits are.

Acme 200g lswc set to 1.240"

Acme 185g lswc set to 1.180" I shot all of these and my notes are not clear on this bullet. I don't think this col is right

Hrdy 230g lrn set to 1.200"

Hrdy 200g xtp set to 1.213"

Ber 200g swc plt set to 1.180" I used the recommended col and theses seemed to be short but worked.

Ber 185g hbrn plt set to 1.25" these flew most accurately with 7gn PP

GDHP 230g set to 1.200"

Golden Sabre 230g set to 1.210"

There was not a single malfunction with any of these rounds....none!

I've not experimented with col too much, just stayed at recommended lengths. I used Bulleye on everything except the Berry's which I used PP. I'll try to get some truncated bullets and anything odd that comes along.
