D.Hayden
Any good substitutes for the 100% Processed Scharch brass? They're out, and they aren't taking backorders... I might have to finally break down and do all the brass prep myself, but this stuff is so easy.. Thanks...
Guest Larry Cazes
.223? You should be able to do it all except trim to length on the 1050, right?
ErikW
Oh yeah there are a few others... http://www.rvow.com/ (Holy crap, they are out, too!) http://www.gibrass.com and some others I don't recall.
D.Hayden
Thanks Erik... didn't find any that were procesed, GIBrass seems ok, more expensive, but looks like they have it.. Larry... I load these on a 550, but even the 1050 only helps with the primer pockets...
George
Try Dillon. Before I started using Scharch I was buying 100% from them at slightly higher $ (50 sumthin a k IIRC). It was acceptable stuff, but still needed case mouth de-burring. -- Regards,
warpspeed
Berkim, how much are looking for ?
D.Hayden
Sorry... been away for holidays.. I was just going for another thousand... I'll load the ones I have and then dig a round through other (that don't need trimming).. it'll get me by until Scharch has them in again.. EricW
I'll hazard a guess that it isn't terribly economical to ship spent brass back from Iraq and Afghanistan. Just might be a bit before Scharch is back in stock.
D.Hayden
I talked to them today... I've been to reliant on the net, thought I'd try a carbon based system.. (this may be para-phrasing, but you'll get the jist) They said Army is now shredding the brass in the east, and doing something else in the west (heating it?), that has dropped the supply of brass down considerably. They knew it was coming, and started getting the equipoment to make thier own.. TopBrass.. but they're still looking for supplies of once fired. They're hoping for mid to late January. TopBrass.. but they're still looking for supplies of once fired. That will definitely be a bummer if the once fired military supply drys up. I would have to change my profligate ways and go back to new WW and scavenging it whenever possible. -- Happy New Year
D.Hayden
Hopefully I can get a few thousand in January... Looking at all the others, Scharch was about $15 cheaper, and free shipping. $45 per 1K could be left on the ground.... (but of course I kept it... glad now)
kimel
Scharch is listing .223 as back in stock as of 1-17-2005. Looks like it is Remington brass and not the Lake City that they have had for a long time but at least they have .223 back in stock.
D.Hayden
Thanks Kimel, I've got mine on order....
anyracoon
I just scored on 1000 223 fully processed brass on E-bay for $40.00 with shipping. Do a seller search on "bulletbaron"
D.Hayden
Got my cases today... it's the same LC headstamp I got last time... Looks great...
Too_Slow
You can also try http://www.gibrass.com/index.html . The price that they list is unprossesed but they will clean and remove the crimp for an extra $ 10 per 1000.
kimel
Good to know that is still LC brass. I have mine on order too.
kimel
FYI...I was placing my semi-annual brass order with brassmanbrass.com today and they told me that they will be starting to offer 100% processed .223 brass in the near future. Said he currently has a large pile of LC with more on the way. Good to know that there will be another alternative for 100% processed brass should a favorite supplier run dry again. He also claims that the Govt had to stop shredding/melting their brass because the various Govt rules required them to get the best price for their scrap and shredded/melted brass isn't nearly as valuable on the surplus market as good quality brass. If this is true then the flow of LC should be back into the pipeline fairly soon and running out of brass will not be a problem again! No affiliation...blah blah blah....just a satisfied customer of both Scharch and Brassman and several other surplus brass suppliers.
