12glocks
I am not new to competitive shooting. I shot my first 3gun match about 30 days ago and was INSTANTLY hooked. I am about to shoot my 3rd match tomorrow. Shotgun wise, I started with a M1 Tactical with a factory mag extension I had in the safe (with ghost rings). This week I bought a 26" M2 field for a match tomorrow. I broke it in with about 125 rounds of 3 dram walmart bulk ammo and it ran 100%. I ordered a nordic +9 tube that arrived today. I cut the spring 16 inches longer than the nordic tube and installed it. When I manually cycle the gun with the cartridge drop lever, the last round from the magazine does not exit the tube quite all the way. The slide locks back. If I push up on the carrier from the bottom the gun goes into battery. I am using the factory red anodized aluminum follower. I wonder if the inertia of recoil will help propel the last cartridge onto the carrier? I am bringing the M1 as a backup gun but really wanted to shoot a vent rib barrel with a bead tomorrow. I added 4 inches of the spring I cut off back in the tube and same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have been reading and searching this forum (primarily) for all my issues so far. Great forum for competitive shooters! I kinda think I got a underpowered spring. I am shipping the gun off to C-Rums Monday to make it race ready. MickB
did you cut 16" past the INSTALLED tube, or 16" longer than the tube itself? If the latter, your spring is probably too short... Mick
12glocks
I stuck the spring down in the Nordic +9, measured 16" out and cut the spring.

GunCat
The 16” measurement should be 16” longer than the length of the Nordic tube AND the gun's factory tube combined. In other words: attach the Nordic tube, drop the follower in and make sure it slides all the way in and bottoms out against the receiver. Insert the spring into the tube until it contacts the follower then verify that you have 16” or so of compressed spring protruding out the end of the Nordic extension tube. If your spring is too short you are better off starting with a new spring and trimming it accordingly. Coupling 2 sections of spring together may cause binding inside the tube. dhill
I usually cut the springs about 12" past the length of the tubes. Havent had problems with it.
PacMan
.. I cut the spring 16 inches longer than the nordic tube and installed it. If I push up on the carrier from the bottom the gun goes into battery. ..I kinda think I got a underpowered spring. Sounded like you cut the spring BEFORE you install the tube! If that is the case, then yes you have an "unintended" under-powered spring! Ooops! Time to buy a new spring. Tube should be installed first, then spring, then measure the spring length outside of the tube end in the gun, then cut. Onagoth
As said....needs to be around 16" past the total length of the magazine...not just the extension. I usually stick to around 13-14"....anything under 12" started to hiccup. I've got so many damn springs its not funny. Still keep em if I ever get shorter extensions though. gondo
I have this setup as well as a few others I know, we don't cut the Nordic springs with the Nordic +9 tubes. Matter of fact you should buy two new springs, put one in the gun and keep the spare with you at matches. When the first gets a couple inches shorter than your new one then you need to replace it. Only reason to cut a stock Nordic spring with a +9 tube is if 12 rnds won't fit in the mag. This is all my opinion but I have seen and used this setup for a while... 12glocks
Thanks everyone for the replies. I made a noob mistake, actually two, I should have ordered an extra spring as well. New springs will be ordered Monday. FWIW, it would not eject the last shell onto the carrier so...I put two dummy rounds in the business end of the extension tube, then the spring, and the gun ran flawless. I was sweating it but made it through the day. Thanks again!

Dang right dude I wouldn't have thought of that I don't think, really smart congrats! Don't throw your short spring away, give it to somebody with a shorter tube...
