Kurt Miller has it right. Triangle Shooting Sports is the shop to turn to for all Versamax amd M1/M2 work that needs to be done.

I remove the small inner spring and stretch the larger spring just a bit. You can also bend the shell latch a bit to make loading even easier.

Put a radius on the extractor cut and you should be fine. Just make sure you dont file away too much. All you want to do is brwak the sharp edge.

It takes some pressure to get the forearm off.

Worked a little magic on it. Im glad you are happy with it. Most of the shooters who get a VM are happy with them. If you shoot a lot, I would suggest swapping out the parts I mentioned above. If you have any questions feel free to call.

Im a M2 fan. Hes a Versamax fan. The VM can be a great reliable gun if you swap out the hammer, cam pin, extractor with M2 parts. The Remington parts are soft and wear quickly. I was speaking from a reliability stand point. The M2 and 1301 need no parts swapped to be very reliable. The VM has to be upgraded to achieve the same reliability. It all comes down to personal preference and budget. The M2 is a little more expensive than the Versamax. I actually own both the VM and the M2 and enjoy shooting them both.

If you want the best, most reliable shotgun in the sport you cant beat the M2. Inertia driven and no gas system to worry about keeping clean. The 1301 is a close second.

Ive had the same problem a few times. I put in a new magazine spring and polished the the tail of the shell release. There is a sharp edge on the tail that the rim of the shell can catch on. I havent had a problem since.

The RNT bolt release tab is great. No drilling required. If you go with Nordic, TTI, or any screw mounted release tab, dont drill from the backside and dont drill all the way through. Ive installed more than I can count and learned early on that drilling all the way through only causes problems.

In my opinion the tacticap model is a better starting point. The loading port can be opened up nicely. The nordic tubes work just as well as the factory carbon tube. The rear sight on the competition model is more of a hinderance than help in my opinion. We usually end up removing the rear sight due to the gun shooting extremely high. The lifter on both models needs replacing. If you got the tactical model at a discount then you are ahead already.

If reliability is a priority dont get a mossberg.

Towards the receiver wall, away from the rim of the shell. It doesnt take much. The VM shell releases bend very easily, just use a vise.

You cant beat the M2 for quality and reliability.

Read some of the threads about bending the shell release, not cutting it. Take the advice of Kurt Miller and others who have been doing this a ling time. Bending is the way to go. Cutting notches will weaken the shell release and causes it to break n due time. We bend all our shell releases and the guns load smooth.

I would take kurts advice if I were you. He's been doing this longer than any of us.

Just about all the shops offer the service. We stock the Nordic and the Redneck Tactical bolt releases. Its the customers option but I recommend the Redneck version.

The Redneck Tactical extended release is by far the easiest to install and works great. Another great thing about it you dont have to worry about it snapping off when you toss the shotgun in a barrel.

Very true. Ive been building M2's and VM shotguns for about 6 years now, the old man has been doing for too many years to remember. We've seen some that were butchered.

Speaking from experience, be careful when removing/installing the pin that holds the shell release. When the port is opened up that much there isnt much material left holding the pin and will easily break which causes the pin to fall out. Its hard to tell from the pictures how thin it is. Just offering some advice to those who open ports themselves.

Ease of loading and soft shooting go to the Versamax. Reliability goes to the M2 hands down. The VM can be made to be very reliable by swapping out a few parts.
