JAB
So I have this 2nd gen(only one pin) sitting around, would it be strong enough to be an open gun and handle shooting major loads or would it be beter to sell and buy a 3rd gen
dskinsler83
3 pin models are usually the most recommended for Open platforms
Steven420
They are so strong that glock added a third pin to the frame on the gen3. You should sell it and get a gen3 .40 cal. The locking block is beefier.
LilBunniFuFu
Sell and get a three pin like others have stated.
EkuJustice
Fine for 9mm. Not good for 9mm major
Tom C
They are so strong that glock added a third pin to the frame on the gen3. You should sell it and get a gen3 .40 cal. The locking block is beefier. The extra pin came about when Glock introduced the Glock loaded in 40S&W. You can make a Glock 34 an Open, major PF gun but I do think there are better choices at those pressure levels. The Gen 3 or 4 Glock in 40 S&W (aka Glock 35) is a far better choice. It's built for major pressure levels. Plus, if you are serious about Open, the additional bullet diameter of the 40 cal can, and does come in to play in the case of "Perf hits". dskinsler83
There is no difference in a Gen 3 or Gen 4 frame of a 9mm or 40 Tom C. No more beefy than the other, they are the same. A 2pin 9mm will not stand up to major power factors
G17
Sell or trade it for a gen 3/4 Glock 17.
Nik Habicht
Fine for 9mm. Not good for 9mm major I've cracked a slide on my original 2 pin G-34 after ~70k rounds of minor loads. I wouldn't recommend that locking block/slide combo for major, as it seems to transfer the stresses to the ejection port area on the slide..... The three pin set-up isn't just an extra hole drilled in the 2 pin locking block and frame, it's actually a redesigned locking block, that transfers the force in a meatier portion of the slide....
