bent charging handle?

I was having a hard time getting my my VLTOR BCM ambi charging handle over my cheek pad on my ARFX stock. I threw on a granite slab, and low and behold... it's bent. tried my best to straighten it out. I had only run about 100 rds through the rifle total. 50 with the mil spec handle that came with the upper. I was going to spurge and buy the Raptor ambi, but at $85, I don't want a repeat of what just happened. Anyone else ever bend one, or receive a bent one?

If you want a durable one, get a steel version:

I have the DPMS version and it is noticeably heavier than an aluminum one. Personally I bring a spare charging handle and a spare bolt with me to big matches. Those two items are what I've broken in the past.

ALL the tommy tacticals are buying the steel one from DPMS. :roflol:You can shoot it with your Spikes Tactical 38mm picatinny mount "Flare Launcher" and it won't damage it.

Kidding aside, the walls on a charging handle are quite thin, and any of them can bend. Not a common thing, but happens enough to see one at any 200 man match. Usually happens during a chamber clear while prone. Buy one you like, and it probably won't happen again in your lifetime. Unless you are in the lead at the Ironman, or Superstition, in which case it will assuredly tie up your rifle. :surprise:

hahahahaha! I was just trying to be funny and it took me so long to write it it seemed like a reply to the previous post! No offense intended!

  • 4 weeks later...

go with a raptor.....I'm a lefty and hands down it is the best feeling smoothest ambi part I've put on my rifles.

I'm sure if hammered hard enough it would bend.....but I tell ya what, if I was ever unlucky enough to bend one...I'd just order another up right away....that's how smooth it is!
