Recoil Spring Weight

Secretariat

Recommended Posts

For an actual Colt Commander I believe the factory weight is 18 lbs. If it's not, I'd check the manual or vendor site. I believe my Baer came with an 18lbs variable spring however my Kimber Pro and SA Champion came with 22lbs springs but will work with 20-22lbs springs.

20lbs first 500 rounds then tuned load and me (lol) to throw brass for self defense load about 8-10 feet. Seems to work for me. That was what I was taught 30+ years ago.

use 18lbs in 5" 45acp to start

Thanks a lot for all of your replies. How about for a standard size 1911(45 Acp)pistol, what recoil spring weight would guys recommend that I get?For your information,I am using 230 Grain 45 ACP ammo.

Thanks again in advance.

I use 16 pound Wolff standard rate spring for action sports. 20 pound standard rate Wolff for bullseye ball gun where sight recovery and tracking isn't really an issue.
