45 ACP loads?

I am beginning to load for my 1911 on my Dillon 550. I want to use 230 gr FMJ and IMR 7625 powder with CCI 300 primers. Does anyone use this combination and can you give me some suggested loads for it? Want to load on the "hot" side of things but stay within max pressures etc. Many thanks.

I run a 230 grain Montana Gold Complete Metal Jacket bullet ahead of about 5.2 grains of Winchester WST and a Winchester 300 primer.

It has been an absolutely reliable load that makes major all six of my/my families' .45's -- sure handy to run 'em all out of one ammo bag!

I have no particular experience with 7625 in the .45; but in my judgement the .45 is about the easiest critter there is to load for.

I use a Dillon 650, with Dillon dies; and found that my reject-on-gaging rate dropped to nil from about 5% when I started running everything through a CasePro.

I decided to try the new Unique for .45 ACP, and strangely enough, it works. ;) It burns way cleaner than the old version, SDs are within what you get from factory, and you don't have to fudge on your loads to match factory velocity. I get 830 fps from my Commander with 6.3 grains (230 grain Star FMJs). Haven't chronoed it from my Gubmint Model.

Ed's right about the Lee factory crimp die. I use one for several calibers, including .45 ACP. My Commander has a Bar-Sto barrel with a tight chamber, and it runs all the time with my loads.

I now hear that 7625 will not yield high fps and that there are better powders for 45 acp. Any help here?

I prefer the faster, cleaner burning, pwders such as American Select, WST, or Clays in 45 ACP. If you cannot find suitable data on either the Hodgdon or Alliant websites drop me a line when I return home after March 27th and I'll dig up my info.

I shoot a hot .45 load for bowling pins. Right now I am using a 200 grain hollow point with 8.0 grains of Hodgdon Longshot. If you want a copy of all of Hodgdon's load data for the .45 ACP drop me a PM with your e-mail address and I will forward it on to you.
