nhglyn
I am now reloading for my STI Open gun that I will shoot next season. I plan on loading 124 gr but want to know if it is better to use JHP's or FMJ's. Either more reliable when loading? Can you give me some advice and reasons for each. Many thanks. Rob Boudrie
JHPs are generally swadged from the rear and have an enclosed base which should reduce lead buildup in the comp.
Skywalker
Shooting Standard, but I chose JHPs over FMJs because of the enclosed base that prevents lead smoke upon firing.
lynn jones
jhp's are usually more accurate, too! lynn
Guest Larry Cazes
If your buying montana gold bullets, they now have a 9mm/.38 CMJ listed in both 124 and 115 grain. These are completely jacketed (no exposed lead at base) and have a roundnose profile. The roundnose should make them better feeders. Anyone try these yet? Alan Meek
Used the Montana Gold 124 CMJ in my major 9 at the Nationals, Fed perfectly. Like them a lot. Alan
eric nielsen
JHP. Less smoke, more accurate, no barrel leading at all. No comp leading in an Open gun either. Virtually no smoke at all in a Limited gun. JHP.
shred
For some reason MG FMJ's don't shoot nearly as well as MG JHPs for me. One of the bullet-gurus said that how JHPs are made actually improves their consistency over FMJs. Something to do with squeezing from the top vs squeezing from the bottom. blackdragon
We have a new 124gr JSP, That I have been testing. Shot the NATS, Area1, Cactus 400. A little bit of lead at the tip, enclosed base. No lead build up in the comp. A lot cheaper than JHP and CMJ. They feed great and are accurate! Ivan Armscor
Jake Di Vita
Ivan, do you have a price set up for those?
blackdragon
Yea Jake right now $51.00 per K as long as the metals market stays the same Ivan
hockeydadnu27
I have been shooting 124 MG in CMJ and JHP for last 2 seasons. I switch to 125 Zero bullets JHP and they are very very accurate and excellent feeding reliability. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed.
