ajg308
O.G., I want to tri top a slide. I know the fixture I want to use, what face mill would you recommend? Edited March 19, 2014 by ajg308
StraightUp_OG
I am using a 2" face mill. Jared turned me on to earlier in this thread. It makes such a beautiful cut and you can rotate the carbide cutters 3 times before replacing them so the tool life is long lasting and the cutters are relatively inexpensive. I think it is the 2" but it might be a 1.5". I will check tonight and confirm in the thread. Nope it is the 2" Edited March 19, 2014 by StraightUp_OG
Toolguy
That is the best geometry and insert type for a face mill. I've tried em all.
ajg308
Sweet, going to pull the trigger on it.
Abunchahicks
With the LMS Mini mil is there enough room to use a rotary table or 4th axis setup if I ever go CNC to do front strap checkering? So yes and no. There is a 4th axis setup but it would be very hard to setup to do a front strap. You guys with all this talk of the BF20 have me thinking about an upgrade. So for the kind of work you are doing, and if you had the extra cash. Would you still get the LMS mini or go with the BF20?
StraightUp_OG
If I had it to do over, I would get the BF20.

bmiller
Would the Grizzly 704/759 have enough clearance to make the Wilson/Nowlin cut?
StraightUp_OG
The SX2(MiniMills) have enough room so the 704 absolutely!

bmiller
Called Grizzly to find out the availability of the 759 mill with DRO. They said they are sold out, and will be back ordered until after May 21! Apparently a bunch of people are reading this thread!
StraightUp_OG
Better get my upgrade ordered then so I can get in the BO queue.
bmiller
This was at the Pa location. I wanted to pick it up to save freight. The 704 was in stock.
spence1300
I'm trying to decide what to do now too. I ordered mine thinking they were in stock and they emailed me saying BO until 6/2! Seems like getting a 0704 and adding DRO might be the better option.

Shadowrider
That machine is fricken SICK! Talk about rapids! Ho Lee Chit! Meh. We had a Leblonde Makino A77 that did that with a bigass tombstone and 2 150lb aluminum blanks on it. Those tool changes are smoking though! donnyglock
I put it on the first open gun I built. Its an outstanding comp. Tracks great and is super lite. I highly recommend it.
StraightUp_OG
NICE must have one for my next build but that will be awhile with all the stuff in front of it. Really considering moving upto the 704 so that may become the next project...
