Monthly Match @ Wayne County Raccoon Hunters

Recommended Posts

Well it is approaching the 4th weekend of the month again and our design crew is getting together Wednesday night to put the finishing touches on our match for this weekend. The rumors about the stages are probally all correct. It is true that my stage designers hate all good shooters and want them to suffer like the rest of us so they have really come up with some challenging courses of fire. The hard part is going to be picking which ones to shoot. Plan on 8-9 stages with a round count around 200+, so bring 400 and everyone should be fine. I think the tons of props we have will be out on display this weekend (just a hint....)on some stages. I will say that the back bay will have one large field course in it again since so many folks commented on last months large field course. This month, you might want to bring your track shoes as the stage will require you to shoot from every corner of the entire bay....while on the move. Since many of the competitors will be attending the US Nationals next month in Las Vegas, we are trying to give our stages some of the same type of feel.

Last month the Canadian IPSC lady Champs graced us with thier presence and beat many of thier male counterparts. Sara L. may be back this month to give some of you guys an opportunity to get some dignity back (or not) as she continue to love shooting high cap match's. Some of our more distinguished shooters (ok, older gentlemen) might want to watch Mike Auger from Canada shoot this weekend. He is over 60 now and shoots like a 25 year old with his SV Open gun as he mows down courses of fire. He has finished as Top Sr. at the World Shoot before so we are going to be blessed if he shows up along with his running mate Josko Kovich also from Ontario. Many other Canadian shooters have made inquiry's about attending so it should be entertaining with so many international guests shooting along side our regulars. Plus, "Those Guys from Ohio" keep showing up. We have tried to alert the State Police about them but they somehow find a way to get here. At least they have not broken anything this year (Ryan....that is not an invitation to try to......).

Further good news-our scoring/match set up duo of Rob and Brian report that they have confirmation from Practiscore that the registration/downloading issue from last month is worked out and we should be able to start on time this month. A big Thank You goes out to all the competitors from last month that waited it out for them to come up with a solution.

Registration opens up at 8:30am again and closes at 9:30am so we can make sure everyone is squaded correctly in the Nooks. Cost is the usual $25 for nonmembers, $20 for members. If you want to shoot with your friends on one particular squad, get there early and together to squad as it is first come, first served. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to contact Brian (Too Slow), Rob (W00f) or myself. Exact round count and further stage design info will be posted later in the week.

Hope to see you on our Range................Roy

Hi Roy! :lol::)

I've (you've???) been lucky this year. I have managed to bust something at every other match I've shot this year. Most recently I removed a steel plate from its stand. :)

We, Prop Breakers Inc. will be there and I'm bringing another shooter with us to get the full Michigan experience! If I'm not mistaken he is a big OSU fan so he's really looking forward to coming up!

And yes... we have secret way into MI.

There is NO stopping us!!!

Man if they are so worried about a few guys from Ohio sneaking into the match, only makes me wonder what they'll say when I show up from San Antonio. Might have to have you show me the secret way into MI, though I'm betting that it is a very similar route I used to take when sneaking into MI after a big fireworks shopping trip.

If you're coming from Texas I hope you shoot a SV or you're never gonna hear the end of it! Roy will go into convulsions! Hahaha!!!! :)

If it looks like you're gonna get um, detained at the border and your super secret route is compromised hit me up and I'll tell you ours.

Roy... It's a full blown invasion! :roflol:

Guess I'll never hear the end of it with me shooting a plastic gun and all. I might need to make a few dry runs across the mexican border to sharpen my crossing skills. Those northern border patrol officers need to be really sharp to keep all those canadians out. :goof:

Mike,

You forget, the Canandians have to come North to shoot my match as we live north of the Canadian/US border. (yes, I know it sounds strange but I have to drive South to get to the Canadian border when I compete in IPSC match's). They have thier own secret ways into the country and Form 6 paperwork to help them along at the border.

As for the "other" guys from the south (ohio)......we actually like them except when they try to break all my props (Ryan....that would be you!!!). However, they are a riot to shoot with and good people to hang out with.

Thank goodness that TechSupport from India is coming back(Thank you Sim!!!!!!). You have to call and order this type of help months in advance. Otherwise you get stuck with "Peggy" from the PrimeCredit/Capital One credit card fame. Just don't hang out with him the night before the match where he is playing bartender. (strong drinks....wow). Plus, he's Canadian too...........

Ryan is right about one thing....what are you doing living where you do and not shooting a Texas gun?????? As most of the guys will tell you, don't hang out with our crew too long as I just happen to know a guy who works at a certain factory........ok, so he owns it too. But they make really, really nice stuff for me and my crew. (Thank you Brandon & Sandy!!!)

In a PM, Mike asked what we do if it rains on match day. I told him it doesn't ever rain on match day. If it happens, I think Mike gets an "invitation" to swim a victory lap in the dog pool we have or strung up at the gate for all to see. He said it.....it is all his fault. Just letting everyone know.

I am thinking 8-9 stages with no classifier this month.........all field courses. More info on Thursday after we finish with the stage design meeting on Wednesday night.

See you on the range................Roy

Roy,

I grew up in Monroe County, so I still had to head north to get to Canada. That or swim/walk east across Erie.

You are going to have to forgive me for not shooting a Texas gun. Something about them not being on the Production gun list really makes me shy away from buying one. I have heard that if you shoot them, you are overcome by a strange desire to own one or three. I think I'll resist the Kool Aid for now.

Now for the rain comment. That was a PM so the weather gods don't get any ideas. You put it out in public. I can handle a victory lap, can you?

8 field courses for $25 is a great value. Especially if they are as challenging and fun (yes in that order) as I have heard. Most clubs in San Antonio usually do 3-4 Field courses, a standards and a classifier for $20. Rd count usually isn't above 150.

Hi All,

Well here I am and I have some information on our match for you. We have 9 stages setup on 8 bays (no classifer) with a round count of 208 rounds if you don't miss. I happen to know that at least one stage is supposed to be all mini-targets and you can never tell about the rest. You will really want to be careful on those mini poppers with the no-shoots behind them.

The setup crew set a new record today. In just a little over two hours we setup 9 stages on 8 bays.

This is going to be fun. Bring your front sight and you running shoes. I think I am going to bring oxygen for the back bay :surprise:

There is little speed shoot that should be very entertaining to watch the go for broke types shoot

Hope you all will enjoy the match.

Another excellent match again Roy. It's hard t o believe a local club can have 9 stages / 8 squads, at a club match, have it run smoothly, and all for only $25, and still make it out by 3:15pm AND have scores done the same day!!! WOW, just wow! :)

Great tune-up for those of us going to Nationals. You really do a great job of knowing what your customers want.

Thanks again!

To Everybody that helps with the matches at Raccoon:

THANKS!!!

It's good to see stages that are designed with multiple solutions, ones that make you think. Squad 1 was the height of efficiency as they were scoring targets on the Nook as the shooter was still shooting. That is a great way to keep moving through the 30+ round stages and get everything pasted and reset for the next shooter.

This will be my last visit to Raccoon for the 2012 season as next month's match has been announced as a Single Stack, Production, Revolver and Limited 10 match.

Looking forward to next year.

Chris, John and Papa,

Thank you again for the kind words. The first ones I will share it with are the members who come out and set up. They are incredible. They "get it" and understand what we are trying to do which is give every shooter the opportunity to crash and burn. (Just kidding.....). We want to shoot good stages that challenge every skill we have and the members have really bought into that mind frame. Many of the little things that go into a stage such as target placement and where to put a no shoot for example did not come from me this match. Our staff did it.....I lost count of how many times I heard guys saying "put a no shoot on that just to give them a pause or vary the heights of the targets so guys can't just hose". I am really proud of our group as they are getting more experianced in setting up stages. The kind comments from our guests are showing others think the same as I do about our group.

As for the stage design, placement and other management/administrative issues, we are blessed to have a bunch of great people who do so much behind the scenes. Your kind words go a long way to motivating these folks to donate so much time, effort and sometimes thier own $$ to the cause.

I am just glad with all the running the back bay stage required that we didn't have anyone require oxygen after shooting it.

Thank you again to all of our competitors that keep coming back. We really do try to have something for everyone.

Next month (October 28th)our last match of the year will once again have a different theme. This year the Motor City Classic will be a Motown/Detroit Rock City event for Single Stack, Production, Revolver and Limited 10 only. Chris Bartolo (G-Man Bart) designed all the stages himself and all have a music theme/song to go along with the stage. It should be highly entertaining and from looking at the iniital stage designs, this should be a great match to come and shoot. Same price, same place and same time as usual and I will put out a reminder as we get closer to the match date.

Hope to see you on the range,

Roy

Michael,

You still want to come back after having to run the back bay stage over after a timer malfunction? You are a glutton for punishment. In other words, you are "our" kind of people. We would be happy to host you anytime at our events. Thanks for coming and bringing your "fan club" with you to watch and take pictures. Nice folks.

Best regards in your shooting endeavors this year.

Roy
