Ssanders224
So I was all ready to shoot my first match with my new (to me) limited gun, then halfway through the first stage the gun locked up. After getting it apart, this is what we found. This is a custom built 2011, and I BELIEVE an EGW sear. Just curious if anyone has seen this happen before?? Will_M
It may just be the picture resolution but the nose of the sear that's broken off looks like it's pitted/striated pretty badly.
Ssanders224
Yea, just the resolution I guess. Does not look that way in person, no pitting.
feederic
Wow! Yes that does resemble an EGW sear. It looks like the middle of the sear took a beating from the half cock notch too. I have not heard of a sear nose shearing off like that. Interesting relief cut where the sear spring rides. Perhaps stress from hammer over-cocking? I think you might be refering to the relief cut for the thumb safety? Sear spring rides on the "left" leg of the sear.
PINMAN44
If it's an EGW sear call Jim or George. They'll take care of it immediately.

Odds are the over-travel screw was not set properly and the hammer took out the sear. That cut on the sear is done to fit to the safety. That way if the trigger components are replaced, you won't have to replace the safeties too.....cut the cheapest part of the equation in other words. Brazos Custom
This usually is a result of the hammer falling to half cock once too many times.
Pat Miles
This usually is a result of the hammer falling to half cock once too many times. The sear takes a beating when the hammer falls to half cock. Pat
Ssanders224
Well, I know of no reason that the hammer would have been falling to half cock? I do not know the exact history of how the hammer was manipulated thoughout the life of the gun, but it never saw half cock while in my possession. hitman
Yes I have, twice. 1. Over travel wasent ajusted correctly and hammer kept following. Some people wont listen till its to late. 2. bad metalurgy.
tpcdvc
I was the first and original owner. Just sold it to Ssanders224 like a week ago. That gun NEVER had a hammer follow. Not even one that I remember. Very strange indeed.

Not even one that I remember. Very strange indeed. Yep. I had only fired 100-150 rounds through the gun, but everything was set up just right. Over travel, sear/hammer engagement, everything seemed great. Definitely no hammer follow. I'm chalking this one up to a fluke in the metallurgy. feederic
Odds are the over-travel screw was not set properly and the hammer took out the sear. I agree based on the damage in the middle of the sear. That cut on the sear is done to fit to the safety. That way if the trigger components are replaced, you won't have to replace the safeties too.....cut the cheapest part of the equation in other words. Got it, on my phone it appeared the relief went all the way down the sear leg.
