SAMMY63
I have just required a S & W revolver circa 1945 schoffield type. I had it checked out by a gunsmith friend of mine and he said it was safe to shoot. My problem is that it was nickel plated and the plating has worn off on most of the gun. I want to make this a hobby project and try to refinish it myself. Any ideas on how to remove the plating and get down to bare metal. thanks for looking. good luck with your shooting. RangerTrace
Seems like I read somewhere that hydrogen peroxide will take hard chrome off, so maybe it will do the same for nickel. IF not, try having it bead blasted.
tgford58
Look at this site. Maybe it will help http://www.caswellplating.com/index.html
pvhendrix
I've had one nickle gun and one hard chrome gun stripped. Both were done in a chemical/electro bath. It is possible if a smith knows the procedure. Unfortunately I can't aske the smith that did mine as he has passed away.
Bill Nesbitt
I have just required a S & W revolver circa 1945 schoffield type. Are you sure it's a Schofield? If it is, refinishing it will probably destroy any collector value.
Hamma Slamma
Bill, it's already been refinished. I have a S&W from the same era, not sure if it's a Schofield, but it too was plated before I got my hands on it. No longer any collector value, just a regular old gun. BlueOvalBruin
I know some strippers who could remove the chrome from a trailer hitch, but I don't know about nickel plating. I'll have to ask. The brownells solution looks promising though and has good reviews.
Biloxi23
Bruin, that would probably take too many $1.00 bills. But then again, it woulod probably be worth paying to see.
