Powder to push MG 185jhp's to 1000fps?

What powder would you guys recommend to get MG 185jhp's to 1000fps? I'd prefer VV powder as I have had a good experience with N320 reloading 9mm (clean, consistent, etc). But, I don't think N320 will get me there without being overloaded past VV's recomendations. N310? Also, I don't want to end up with +P rounds.

I'd appreciate any starting loads you could recommend.

I've never tried it, but looking at vv load data, it seems that N340 would get you there without much trouble. Start load from one manual is 7.2 for about 1000fps and OAL of 1.268. Did you check online--go to: http://www.lapua.com/en/products/reloading/vihtavuori-reloading-data/relodata/6/20

These are all +P loads in my opinion and you would need to work up to them carefully. The only that is probably safe is N340 as VV listed it as a starting load.

A tad slower than requested, but I have had very good results with WSF. 7.0 grains under a 185 jacketed runs at 965 fps in my 5".

I bumped up my Clays load to 4.8gr for 185gr LSWC in .45. I also tried 5.8gr of Universal Clays but it felt harsher than the Clays load. I haven't shot JHP with it, but that's as close as I get to the info you're looking for.

AA#2 at 6.5GR. gives 960fps and no pressure signs in a couple of different 1911's, I stopped at 7.1GR for 1030fps and no pressure signs. Use at your discretion as different Guns react differently.

I use Clays - 4.7 grains - to go 965 with a 200gr Missouri Bullet LSWC. Don't seem to be any pressure signs - excess pressure - as it obviously develops pressure to get out of the barrel.

You can get Montana Gold bullets 185g JHP up to 1,102 using Accurate Arms #5 at 10.2 grains.

with Winchester large pistol primer and good brass.

but do NOT take my word for it check it out and work it up in steps.

I have not shot Montana Gold's specifically but I've got Berry's 185gr RNHB to go 1180fps with 9.5 gr of Power Pistol out if a 6" Para Ordinance.
